HI all
I know alot of you must think here she goes again, same old moan different day and yes I am sorry it is, the GP she agreed for me to try the HRT gel but didn't like it so I went back on Estradot 1x100mcg and 50mcg patch, also gave me Propraolol to try but GOD they were horrible so I went back on Amitrypline 10mg and they sort of help with the headaches and neck pain but I am NOW suffering bad mood swings, I feel sad my husband says its like me having PMS again plus a very heavy feeling in my head, I have been google searching and they say that the Amitrypline can cause depression but also having to much estrogen can cause it too. I feel so confused, I am seeing my GP next Monday but don't know whether to stop the Amitrypline or take the 50mcg patch off. MY aunt is a nurse and has mention I could have Fibromalya and to ask the GP about it. I know there is alot of knowledgable ladies out there so until I see the GP what can I do, I have tried to email Dr Currie but it says I can't please anyone advise or help ..

Continue with the Amitryptaline? Mood swings are hormonal. How is your diet overall, I was advised by NAPS to eat every 3 hours even through the night. It's to keep the blood sugar level which can ease anxiety surges. You have to eat the diet 24/7, 52/12 ………..

Hi moonbeam - of course it's OK to post if you are still having problems and sorry to hear this.
re e-mailing Dr Currie - I had a look and I can see that the facility has disappeared from the home page. If it is temporary because she is on holiday (eg due to Christmas) then it usually says so, so maybe it has been withdrawn ( because she was getting too many?). Perhaps Emma will tell us?
I can't help with all the drugs - Amitryp seems to be the wonder drug - I was horrified to be prescribed it when I went to the doc re suspected urine infection and was given Cortisone cream and Amitryp to take as and when, when told from dipstick that it wasn't an infection. Needless to say they are still in the cupboard as I wouldn't dream of taking them for something so minor! Are they are very strong universal pain reliever? - it seems they are prescribed a lot for all sorts of gynae problems???
Fibro is unlikely to be a cause - you have had a hyster and trying to get the dose of hormones right - and you may have other things going on. Fibro isn't a disease as such but a syndrome (horrible one) - ie a collection of symptoms where the cause hasn't been identified or isn't yet known, and in many cases may well be undiagnosed hormonal issues.
Did you ever go down the testosterone route? Sorry I can't remember. Ask to be referred to a menopause clinic and mention the T.
Sorry I can't be of more help but sending sympathy down the line .

Moonbeam, no one could be worse than me about bringing up the same old thing! Look at my posts :oThank goodness for this forum so we can do just that.
The email to Dr C usually say if suspended due to holidays etc so not sure what's happening there.
Sorry I can't help further but good luck

I forgot to add that the patient section of the British menopause society ( I think it's called women's health concerns) has an email and phone consultation facility if you get stuck. I've used them twice by email and they provided quite comprehensive replies/help

Thanks for your advice , feel very irritable this morning and my head feel very heavy, also forgot to mention I have been having alot of spots and ulcers lately as well, I am conviced it the Amitrypline that is causing it, I drag myself out of bed, I started a new job a few months ago and dread going, I think from today I will stop them and see what happens but what shall I do about the HRT, yesterday I took off the 50mcg patch so at the moment I have just a 100mcg patch on, I know you all have said in the past that I was on a very high dose and should reduce but even when I reduce it still doesnt stop the headaches plus I still have some slight meno symptoms i:E leg twitches, some mild hot flushes, should I just continue on with the 100mcg patch and hope things will with the HRT will pain out, this whole HRT and Menopause is crap, as for the meno clinic I will ask the GP on Monday to see if I can go back and also find something else to sort this neck pain and headaches xx

I tried Amitriptyline to help with neuropathic pain. All it did was make me feel totally brain dead, unsafe to drive type of thing. Didn't help the pain but DID cause severe headaches after about three weeks.

Hi
Moonbeam121167
Mmm the heavy head feeling I'd almost forgotten about it that was my first symptom of memo together with tension headaches, sounds like what I had. Does it feel like it could just topple off its so heavy?
I was prescribed Nortriptyline the sister drug to Amitriptyline but with different side effects the ones I had were mainly dry mouth and constipation I have just managed to reduce my dose from 100mg gradually to 25 I am sticking their as I don't want the bad heads back. They are a type of antidepressant but are used to treat pain too my heavy head went at 35 mg,and took three weeks to work I was started at 10mg and was told to increase by 10mg every week until they went.
They were prescribed by my neurologist as I have ms too.
Good luck hope your doc can prescribe them for you to try.
