As I suffer serverly with dry eyes I thought I'd ask how many of you lovely ladies get it, together with fuzzy head and tightening around top of head, mine intensifies when I'm concentrating on doing something whether it's making a cup of tea or lunch and I'm surprised at how much it actually hurts.
I'm on Hrt have been for nearly five years after horrendous other symptoms which left me thinking I was going mad!
How long is this meno lark going to continue for!
-
Sorry - how long is a piece of string :-\
Have a word with a pharmacist in the morning, there are several products to ease the feeling of dry eyes!

Hi
I was referred to a consultant eye specialist a couple of years ago with this problem. He advised me to use blink eye drops also, and his verdict was it was Peri-menopause related, tissues were drying out and this includes the eyes! Not what I wanted to hear but at least it's not serious, hope this helps x

Yes, I have dry eyes and I use intense eye drops called HycoSan from Boots and I take Buckthorn Oil. Both help a lot.
As to how long it lasts, well, I'm 65 and still suffering!

Hi Smokey
Get the dry eyes, fuzzy head and tightening - also on hrt for 5 years. Like you say when does all this end?....

I use eye drops to relieve the dryness and sea buckthorn to reduce the problem. Also, my optician recommended doing very gentle circular movements just under the eye using the ring finger (so as not to apply too much pressure) ending with an upward movement as apparently this encourages lubrication of the eyeball? I don't do it very often though as it feels really horrible.
I think dry eyes must be a very common symptom of menopause, as when I had my last eye test, she was very concerned by the 'abnormal' dryness and was planning to send me for more tests to find out what the problem was - but as soon as I said I was perimenopausal, she said that would be the cause, so no need to worry and just gave advice on how to manage it (drinking lots of water is another important thing. Also cutting down on caffeine) .

I'm on omega 7 caps else for my dry eyes too I think I'm four weeks in so far , hope they work!

I use Systane Eye drops which I get on prescription and I also have an eye bag which you heat in the microwave which encourages the natural oil production from the meibomian glands.
If you can tolerate it fish oil supplements also help a lot.

I have gotten one red eye on and off for, I would say, the last year. It usually does not hurt so much, it mainly looks ugly... It usually lasts about 10 days or so and then disappear until next time. A little odd...

Have you tried eye drops 20032003, the artificial tear sort? I didn't have a clue that dry eyes are a feature of peri until I came on here. When I wake up my eyes look like something out of a horror film!

Yes, I usually borrow some from my husband when needed!

Try the Sea Buckthorn - it does help , mine used to get so dry I felt they were sticking inside my eyeball -

I read somewhere that conjunctivitis is a PMS symptom. Some pictures when I google look really similar to what I get once in a while in the inner corner of my one eye. This has started during the last year or so, and it never was a problem during PMS before. Should I assume it is because of the amplified hormone craziness in peri?
-
I don't really think it is conjuntivitis though, because I don't get the pus in the eye. My red eye looks a lot like the pics of conjunctivitis when the eye is "just" red.

Hi 20032003 - it sounds like a burst blood vessel to me. I have had it happen twice recently!

Dry eye is common at this stage of life I was told. There is also blepharitis which, if you look it up on the NHS website, causes a lot of the mentioned symptoms and is something I have.

Is that pinky red or really red? My eyes look pinky red when I first get up in the morning and the lids look a bit puffy. After about half an hour they don't look as bad. I often get the feeling of something in my eye like a bit of dust or an eyelash which I then spend an age trying to fish out by which time my eye is really red, sore and watery. I now realise thats dry eyes!!

REALLY red between the corner and middle of the eye.

20032003 I have suffered with eye problems on and off for years because I have dust/mite/mould/cat allergies.
Periodically I get what you are describing though funnily enough not so much recently. I always thought of it as an infection rather than an allergy because it would be very bright red from tear duct to centre and sometimnes over the other side and only on one eye. It often used to occur when I had an important meeting or eg if I had to do some training ( this was when I walked in Local Authority) or something where people would be looking at me so very embarrassing. I never got the sticky pus with it, but it did itch slightly. It always used to go when I used Brolene antibiotic Eye drops and I was buying these constantly. I don't know why I rarely get it now?
Like babyjane I also have chronic but mild blepharitis (on my lower lid) but that is completely different and in mild cases does not cause reddening of the conjunctiva - but some itching of the actual eyelid edge and on close inspection slightly raised bumps. You can barely see mine and doesn't have pus either!
You should not share eye drops - in case of possible cross infection. Get your own drops! Not sure why yours recur so frequently - have you seen the doctor? Anyway try Brolene Eye Drops when it next happens and see if it does the trick.

It's certainly not good to share eye drops. However, we are super careful not to touch the eye. My husband always has eye drops at home and uses them everyday. I only need some very occasionally. It's such a waste to buy and toss most of the bottle...
I think last time I had the problem must have been a couple of months ago now. Fingers crossed that it stays away.... :)
