Title: Spotty Face
Post by: Spangles on December 18, 2015, 06:06:10 AM
Hi Ladies
I'm experiencing a painful breakout a long my jaw line. Would any one know why? I'm aware it's probably hormone related, but would this be to much or too little?
Thanks

How old are you? In my forties, I had two outbreaks of acne type blemishes, having never had acne before. I was prescribed a long course of ABs the first time, which made no impact on my skin, but played havoc with my digestive system. Time and patience paid off though and eventually the blemishes faded. Both times I had my hair cut shorter as it seemed to aggravate the blemishes. Sadly, I have blemishes since starting HRT, with no sign of fading and of a different nature than before. I'm glad I'm not a teenager! My nose is quite festive at the moment, a bit like Rudolph! ;D

Strangely, I've got some patches of eczema on my chin and along my chaw at the moment - I've always had the odd breakout of spots whether on HRT or not but this rash is annoying.  I put it down to central heating drying things out or I may unwittingly have touched that area after using some strong chemical product while cleaning the house. I wouldn't necessarily blame hormones - perhaps ask the pharmacist if it is eczema or just spots and ask what is best to use? DG x

I get them along my jaw line, temples and forehead and hairline. Sometimes they are just lumps of angry, sore, redness, and others occasionally develop heads.

What fun!

Ju Ju, what was the AB you were prescribed? I have been on one for eight months for hormonal acne. Fine taking it and it has stopped my spots. It was called Lymecycline I think?

Recently, however, I have had terrible constipation and cramps. Have been diagnosed with IBS - C. I have been in agony.  It wasnt until I read your post that I realised these digestive issues have co-incided with stopping the AD. I wonder if the two are related? Did you find you had issues while taking it or after stopping?

I can't remember what ABs I took. I'm 61 now! ABs can cause problems as they strip good bacteria as well as bad. Some are worse than others, but you can't always avoid ABs. Always take probiotics to support your gut. I didn't know this then.

One doctor insisted I had impetigo, despite the fact there was no crust, had been there for months and was still localised. I believe it's hormonal. I expect the only way to stop it is to stop is to stop HRT.

Shellb - could it be shingles?

No it's not shingles Hurdity, I think it's probably hormonal as it settles and its flared up again. This seems to be the same as last time.

Hello, I hope it doesn't seem like I am 'sticking my oar in' but I have had the same thing as both you & Galadriel have experienced - angry red acne-like bumps along my jawline, chin, forehead, hairline, by my nose &, occasionally on the back of my neck (not all at once).  Sometimes they develop a head but quite often they just remain red. I also get the odd bump on other parts of my body.  I found out that I have got food intolerances & these bumps definitely appear after having anything that contains milk or yeast (usually the following day)  However, I have noticed that they are worse during the second half of my cycle.  These bumps first appeared in autumn 2013 & reactions to other things eg. tablets, my old shampoo & moisturiser etc..  rapidly followed.  I'm assuming hormonal changes during peri must cause this but have no idea why!   :-\  x
