Hi Ladies can anyone shed light on why us post meno ladies are still capable of getting ovarian cysts? I have had them on and off for years even during my non meno days and since starting HRT, some times they go away but often come back. Dr always says fluid filled simple cyst on ultrasound and sends me for the routine blood tests but surely if our ovaries have shut down then they should not be making cysts, I guess its a question for the Dr but thought that perhaps someone could shed some light on it, those ladies who are post meno and have had them..... :-\
-
U could also send an e-mail to Ovacome for advice ;)
-
How do you know you have these cysts- do they give you symptoms like pain or bleeding?
-
No they are visible when I go for my ultrasounds. No symptoms. :)
-
Maybe lots of us have them and don't know! Hopefully someone will be along soon to answer your question. :)
-
Thx Machair I am sure theres a link between them and HRT but then again.....maybe not :-\
-
If worried you could ring the Dept where you get your scans.
-
I am not worried am just wondering why some of us are more prone to cysts than others and what would cause them post meno if the ovaries are supposedly "asleep" I believe that they are fairly common in post meno woman which is making me think that perhaps there is still some ovarian action that we are not aware of :)

How would one get a scan initially - cysts fortunately were never a problem for me.
-
I go for regular scans of my uterus as I use Utrogestan and want to see that its doing the job, fortunately it is, my lining is very thin @ 3mm and that is on 100mg on utrogestan x 12 days, just as an aside for those ladies who are using it cyclically.

:thankyou:

That is really interesting Cassie. Do you go for private scans that you book yourself?
-
Great news about your scans Cassie - and that that dose of utrogestan works for you :)
sparkle my small fibroid has also reduced in size on a recent size since first discovered over 2 years ago - and I am on HRT and long cycle too so I was well pleased about that!
Sorry I can't help re the cysts - it's not something I've looked into so far
Hurdity x

Isnt it annoying sparkle, are you on HRT or still in Perimeno? I seem to have been plauged by these darn things since I was in my 30s even had surgery at one stage to remove a biggie and Dr said they are benign and follicular but was hoping that they would give me a break now that I am post meno but clearly not, perhaps someday if I stop HRT then everything will settle...but that comes with its own issues...I guess. ;)
And Machair yes I see a private gynae for my scans.

They do indeed seem to come and go little blighters! >:(

Thx Sparkle, I actually called my Dr today to ask him if he knew why I am forming cysts still and his answer was rather vague as in, theres nothing can be done about it, some women form them, others don't but as long as they are benign they can come and go as they please.....ho hum....its always a worry though when our bodies decide to sprout these funnies aint it :)
