Title: Probiotics, HRT and Anti-depressants
Post by: MIS71MUM on November 07, 2015, 02:55:38 PM
I am taking all of the above! The probiotics in the form of a yoghurt drink. I don't want to take them all together at the same time of day, how would you space them out through the day? Just started the probiotics, so am hoping that there's no interactions between AD'd and HRT.

Wouldn't have thought the probiotic yoghurt drink would have been an issue with either ADs or HRT.

The easiest way to see if the ADS and HRT interact with each other is to give your pharmacist a quick ring to find out, there mightn't be an issue taking them with each other.

When I took my evening meds I drank them with Actimel

Your doc should have told you if there was any interaction as s/he would have seen what else you were taking?

The other alternative is to look up each product's "Summary of Product Characteristics" ie google the drug or preparation followed by what's in quotes or just SPC - and you will find the full info about each. I think you'll find that section 4.5 gives "Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction", and there will be a couple of paragraphs on this.

eg if I google " Vagifem SPC". This is what comes up first in google:

Hope this helps!

Thanks very much for the info. Just didn't want to overload my liver with all the meds. I've checked out that website and I think I am alright with that combination.

I've been doing it for over 10 years and no problems noted  ;)

Hi - thanks for the replies.

I take my AD at 8 in the morning, HRT at 11 am. Probiotic at 1pm and I have now added an iron tablet at bedtime.

Has anyone taken the probiotics in tablet form as I think the yoghurt drinks can work out quite expensive and I've read they contain a lot of sugar?

I take a probiotic capsule - it's far more effective than the Actimel - Not cheap though

Think I will investigate the tablets/capsules.

How do you space out your meds, if you don't mind me asking?

No worries

I take Tramdol & Gabapentin when I wake up (4.30 to 5am)
I wash down the Immune Biotix capsule with Actimel at 8.45 ish, right before eating breakfast
Larger dose of Gabapentin at 8pm ish

Thank you very much. I will google the capsule that you take and get the information on it.  And may make a purchase!

Not many probiotics survive stomach acid to get to the parts of the gut they are needed. Always best i think to get a capsule .. and the ones you have to keep in the fridge ! should have billions of good bacteria not just millions.
