I live in Southern Ireland where you have to pay for all meds, I am in a situation now where I can only afford either HRT OR Citalophram and will have to give up one of them, not sure which I can survive without, has anyone any thoughts?
-
What are your symptoms zelda?
Citalopram can be used for anxiety and hot flushes , HRT treats flushes and more.
Are you able to but a prepayment certificate so your prescriptions are cheaper?

That's awful! Is there no 'support' for medication there? Make a list of your symptoms and see which have been relieved. Have a chat with your GP and maybe a Pharmacist for advice? Let us know how you get on!

Symptoms are feeling very very low without the Citalopram, crying a lot and find it hard to get through the day, waking up early and not being able to get back to sleep. I am still taking HRT as I have some I bought OTC in Spain.

Is contraception free in EIRE? If so, why not have a bio identical contraceptive pill (which is almost the same as hrt) and pay for the AD? You could look at Zoley (1.5mg bio identical oestrogen) or Qlaira (mainly 2 mg oestrogen). Both are new, hence the reason they are not always considered.

No sadly thats not free either :'(

Do you not have a Health Insurance Policy option? or does not employment offer insurance cover?
-
No I am afraid not I am unemployed.
-
Can you not get a prescription from your GP and buy from the UK/US? or travel to a Pharmacy on this side of the water?
-
I think it might be dangerous buying over the internet, I just wondered if anyone had any experience of taking Citalophram or any other anti anxiety med instead of hrt.
-
Have you been taking either medication for any length of time?
Maybe make a list of your symptoms and feelings over the last 12 months and decide how different you are now? I have taken ADs since the 1980s. Some ladies find it eases some meno symptoms whereas HRT is better for others.
Are you able to register over the Border? Usually meds are prescribed monthly ………
-
No you are not allowed to register over the boarder you have to live in N.Ireland to avail of the NHS. I will make a list of symptoms as suggested and speak to GP. Thanks again to everyone for responding.

Difficult. Citalopram can ease hot flushes and anxiety I believe.
-
Citalopram does help with flushes and anxiety I've taken it for almost two years, never been on HRT but I am post memo. Others say it doesn't help with aches and pains and other symptoms if you are peri. Depends on your most troublesome symptoms I suppose. Hope you can sort something out with your GP.
