Title: Breast Screening
Post by: Ju Ju on October 27, 2015, 02:14:38 PM
Just received a letter asking me to go back for another mammogram tomorrow, after a routine mammogram. At least I haven't time to worry. I just hope it has something to do with the machine as it went on strike while xraying my left boob. Trouble is I had arranged to see my parents. They will be worried sick if I tell them why I can't come. My sister died of breast cancer. I need to think of something better than I'm not feeling well. There's no need to worry them unless there's no choice.

And have a week of worrying? No thanks!  :o Thats the one blessing, letter today. Appointment tomorrow. I'd rather know what to worry about, if anything at all.

Taking a worried friend to the clinic, who has no family nearby?

It's pm.

Mmm! Babysitting a guinea pig? Now Mum might have her daft moments, but........ ;D Car problems, well that's believable, as I have just spent a lot on my car in the last year! Thank you for giving me a laugh, CLKD.

I'll let you know what happens. I've had a couple of scares in the past.

Of course, your Mum would suggest taking the guinea pig with you  ;D

Thank you CLKD! A laugh is what I need!

That's what I'm hoping,Praja. The machine had a blip while doing the 2nd xray on my left boob and the radiologist had to come and release me. She did redo it, once it reset itself, but I'm hoping that all it is. At least they are giving me hardly any notice, so I haven't time to get my knickers in a twist.

Its almost certainly due to a bad image as anything else you would have got a letter to go to the breast clinic and not for another mammo.
Did your parents know you were having your first mammo as if not you could say you have routine mammo appt.

Actually it is to the breast clinic at the hospital. On Thursday I have an appointment for physio, Friday, pre op appointment. 3 days back and forth. DH says if I'm good he will take me out for dinner in the evening.  ;)

Just spoken to my parents. I decided to keep near to the truth. I wasn't sure they would believe me if I said I was babysitting guinea pigs! I had told them there was a problem with the mammogram machine, so told them I had been recalled because of that. Hopefully I'm telling the truth. They didn't seem at all worried, just disappointed.

So your worry isn't theirs - phew!  I prefer the guinea pig story though  ;D

Good Luck!

Thank you for your concern. All is well. There was concern about my left breast (always the one that causes problems) . The angle of the original mammogram was different from previous mammograms and they needed to have a closer look. The hospital machine is able to give a different view, which showed nothing of any concern. The doctor showed me the different mammograms and why they needed to check. She also used the ultra sound to be absolutely sure. It's actually very reassuring that they were being very cautious. I think I shall sleep better tonight!

I had the same back in March. Was it your first mammogram? It is more common to recall for the first as they have nothing to compare the scan with. Mine was a false alarm. They thought they had found a lump but the 2nd one found nothing. Good Luck!

I've had several mammograms both before age 50 and after, so they had plenty to compare with. I had a breast lump years ago which proved to be benign, plus my sister died of metastatic breast cancer, so I was a bit twitchy, but all is fine. My friend has been recalled 3 times since age 50, for an area of dense tissue. This did put things into perspective. I'm grateful that they are so careful.
