Hi Ladies , newbie here, just joined to get some support
48 suffering from VA , on vagifem twice weekly and go has given me Ovisten to use externally , just finishing my first week using it and it's really stinging , has anyone else experienced this ? Not sure if I should stick it out , as I read it takes a while to adjust

:welcomemm: …….. how are you getting on with the Vagifem twice a week?
I use KY jelly on the outer lips, which sometimes itch or feel dry. If the product is stinging it isn't going to be of benefit …… some ladies find 'yes' lube helpful too.
Have a browse round!

Hi CLKD
Thanks for the reply, I'm doing ok on the vagifem , have been on it for a while , had a 'blip' a few months ago so had to restart the full two weeks again , but thus far ok .The dr prescribed Ovestin because I am still having burning when weeing ,I have taken to flushing myself with water each time I go which was ok , it's just now the Ovestin seems to be making it worse. I have contacted my doc re discontinuing , and hopefully she will get back to me !

Hi Sweetscarlett - Estriol Cream is not as concentrated as Ovestin, so might be more suitable. I think they both sting a bit though when you use them on sore areas for the first time - I certainly found that!
-
Difficult procedure though when at work or 'out'.
-
Hi ladies, yes it is , tho it's just a bottle of water in my bag so not so bad , my doc phoned back told me to ditch Ovisten and has prescribed me sylk? I have heard that a lot of ladies use it .
So I feel a it better , would be nice to sort the wee out , but one problem at a time I guess
Xx

If you use the search button for 'sylk' you'll see if other ladies have found it useful ;)

Thanks CLKD

Sylk irritated me! I use 'Yes' water-based vaginal moisturiser.
-
Hi Jenna , it's so frustrating finding what suits and what doesn't ,I use KY jelly I find that's very gentle x
-
Hi again Sweetscarlett - yes, I agree that it is very difficult trying to find something that works for you. KY doesn't suit me I'm afraid. At the moment I use Estriol Cream twice a week for VA and 'Yes' water-based moisturiser (underneath as well) on the other days to keep comfortable - it took me ages to find what worked for me. I hope you find an answer soon or can you use KY to stop the burning?
-
My standby is LIVE yoghurt ;)
-
Im hoping the burning is because of the Ovestin , as I didn't have it before using it ( which I have now stopped) I'm giving it a few days to settle down and will keep you posted , I just use KY for lubrication Jenna but I might try live yoghurt CLKD what do you use ? .
I also take baths instead of showers and use nothing 'up there' just wash myself with an emollient Dermol 200 , I do miss a nice bath with bubbles tho :'(. Xxx

I still have my evening bath. Fortunately nothing aggravates me up there ;)
LIVE yoghurt - eaten helps aid digestion and can improve the amount of good bacteria throughout the digestive tract. Because bugs live in the bowel it can be easy to pass them into the vagina …….. LIVE yoghurt applied to the inner and outer vaginal lips is soothing …… I lay on a warmed towel, apply the yoghurt and doze. The proviso being, to keep pots separate, i.e. one in the fridge for eating the other in the bedroom ;) I buy GREEK, the pot has 'live' written in red on the side.

Thanks for that , I'm also trying to see what aggravates my system 🌴his morning I have forgone my morning cuppa in case it's a caffeine thing ( maybe clutching at straws )but as they say 'every little helps' . Drinking loads of water and also barley water , which I read helps .
Thanks for all the input ladies
Xxxx ;) ;)

Hi Sweetscarlett
:welcomemm: from me too!
Dancinggirl started a really good thread "The Burning Club" in Private Lives which I bumped up yesterday - and has lots of useful info in it :)
Hurdity x
-
:-* thanks Hurdity will read it with interest as I sit and burn :'(
-
Hi Hurdity , is the burn club still active ? I noticed the threads were a few years ago , hopefully it means everyone is ok ? . I am having urethral burning .After a few years within no probs on vagifem , I started getting stingy wee dr gave me Ovestin to us externally which burnt like crazy , so I'm back to square one .Just had a sleepless night of utter pain I'm feeling very low indeed .Hoping to get to see my dr this morning xxx
-
Hi Sweetscarlett - not sure what you mean by still active - I mean if you post in it it becomes active again and someone will respond! I really meant that there was a lot of useful information in it from women in your position that you might find helpful! Women may have forgotten about it which is why I bumped it! It would be great if all those who posted are OK now!!
Sorry to hear you are still having problems. Ovestin is stronger than Gynest cream in the amount of estriol it has in it. Hope you manage to find the right treatment and let us know how you get on.
Hurdity x :)

Hurdity, I have been given antibiotics by my doctor as I had a water infection , this is the third lot I have been given in 2 months , I think it has been the same infection all this time. The stinging and burning has lessened so fingers crossed for me
As a regular user of Vagifem for the last few years , my doctor gave me Noresterone to be taken twice a day for 2 weeks every 3 months , I'm not particularly happy with taking this, and as yet have abstained, after I read a few bad side- effects associated with it . Might I enquire if any other ladies on here have come across this medication ? I know it's to essentially break down the lining of the womb , but is it necessary ??

I thought it was prescribed for very heavy, long periods with flooding :-\
Remind me - has your GP sent your urine samples to a Lab for testing?

Sweet scarlet, if you've got VA the Sylk will lubricate but not do anything else.
You probably need the oestrogen to get bladder/urethra/vagina/vulva all working well again.
Ovestin isn't the only option - you could use a weaker cream (Gynest), or Vagifem (little tiny pessaries) or even the Estring which is a little silicon ring impregnated with oestrogen which just sits up there for its 3 month lifetime oozing oestrogen. It's about the size of a calamari ring before you ask, and you don't know it's there once it's in.
For all the creams and pills, you'll do application every day for a fortnight to get things going and then it drops down to twice a week usually.
Best of luck!
