Does anyone have experience with CAMHS? Child and Adult Mental Health Service? My daughter has her first appointment there next Wednesday for anxiety and self harming (cutting). Would like to know what to expect.
Also has anyone used St Johns Wort with success with their teenager?

I would give the Counselling a try first. St Johns wort is specifically for depression I think :-\ and will interact with other prescribed medications.

Hi CLKD,
It was the GP who mentioned St Johns Wort was worth a try. She's not on any other medication except an inhaler x

St Johns Wort is for mild to moderate anxiety. It's not a quick fix but worth a try especially if it was suggested by your GP. Get the best ones you can though. Natures Best is good. Look online.
Very few side effects too.
You must be pleased her referral has come through. Now she will get the help she needs from experts.
Fingers crossed and let us know.

My daughter was seen by cams years ago when she was badly bullied at school. They were quite helpful at the time, but I think with most things it depends on what therapist your see.

Thanks all,
Yes Honeybun glad referral came through although it came with the wrong date on and we went and were told she wasn't even on the waiting list! Luckily they were so apologetic they pushed us in for this week so am probably being seen sooner than would have been. :)

Let us know how you get on. Hopefully she will have 1-1 consult. Advice. Space to vent ;)

Hi jedigirl - I don't know if you have seen this site but it might give you some answers as to what to expect http://www.youngminds.org.uk/for_parents/services_children_young_people/camhs/child_going_to_camhs
I hope your daughter gets on ok and that you get some help.

Is there a Forum associated with 'young minds'?

Hi - you might be better to ask this question under Private Lives as there may be sensitive information which members might not want read by the whole of the internet. I'm sure Emma would move it for you.
