Title: Pill to patch
Post by: Anjia on October 13, 2015, 08:33:40 AM
Please could the ladies on here please let me no if they have had success with changing from oestrogen only pill to a patch its going in to the fourth month now and im not having much luck. I was awake most of last night with bad flushes so now I am really fed up I changed over because of IBS issues but I would rather put up with that than no sleep. It is a shame because through the day I feel fine when im not tired that is!

Many find the patches much better - better absorption.  I've use Oestrogel for many years - also transdermal - and this is great because you can adjust the dose to your needs, starting low and then after 4-6 weeks increasing if more is needed. Dg x

Sorry can't help as I've never taken tablet HRT but what dose of tablets did you use and what dose patch? If you are getting flushes then maybe your overall systemic oestrogen levels have decreased due to a lower dose, rather than that you are not absorbing from the patch? This could account for your symptoms.

I suspect the answer is what people said in your other thread. It's because your patch is lower in dose than your pill was. Moving from a 2mg pill to a 50 mcg patch is a step down (oen is standard the other high dose) so it may take time to settle and you may find you need a higher patch x

I agree with the others, it sounds as though you are not getting enough oestrogen and that would be why the symptoms have come back.  What size patch are you on?  Why not try upping the dose and see what happens?
