Title: IBS agony
Post by: orchid on October 09, 2015, 01:44:18 PM
Does anyone have IBS with extreme bloating etc? What do you take. Mine is worse because of anxiety at the minute.

Yes, I'm going through a bloated windy phase at the moment.

Sorry no answers though. I have ordered a new probiotic which has great reviews and I'm hoping that may help.
Bl**dy awful though isn't it.

I must admit I am better without gluten, but taking the probiotic plus live yoghurt. I know it is my emotional state at the mo, but yes such an inconvenience! :-\

Stress makes my gut react.  My IBS manifests itself with early morning 'runs' followed by slow transit  :-\

Live yoghurt is a definite no-no for me as are the probiotic drinks! They cause dreadful bloating and pain and make my IBS(d) much worse.

Exactly like you CLKD! I sometimes get strange vibration thing going on too, upper left abdo, don't know what that's about. It's like a mobile phone inside, dr says it's a nerve?

;D …….. I could watch wind work it's way down - when in the bath my belly round the naval would 'vibrate' with trapped wind, DH would press it gently and we could see it moving  :o  ;D ………

My pooh can be 'normal', small rabbit-like droppings which leave the body fast, slow long transit  :-\ ….. fortunately rarely painful but I feel bloated if transit is slow  >:(

Could that be a 'dairy' thing, then Taz2.

Are you lactose intolerant?

Not really although I don't like to have a lot of milk at any one time since my whole system was upset by three months of antibiotics a couple of years ago for a kidney infection. If you are lactose intolerant you can normally still have live yoghurt apparently.

Not my daughter or grandson, but then they are intolerant to dairy completely, not just lactose. There is a difference.

I've had IBS since age 14, so most of my life. Symptoms have changed through life. I did go through a very difficult period after a course of antibiotics for cellulitus, which are known to be particularly vicious on the digestive system. I had a lot of pain and diarrhoea. With the help of a nutritionist I found I had become become intolerant to eggs and soya. After avoiding them, I was able to reintroduce them back into my diet after a year. Wheat seems to be a more permanent problem. For the last few years constipation is more of a problem, compounded by prolapse. Yes bloating plays a part and is unpleasant.

The onset of IBS was after gastric enteritis at a time of severe depression. Sadly, the digestive problems have continued, despite being so much happier and less stressed. Menopause definitely made an impact for the worst. I make sure I drink plenty, eat lots of veg etc, and rely on fybogel to keep things moving still slowly, following a bowel consultants advice. I cope as best I can, which is easier now I have retired.

I think the best way I cope is accepting that this is how it is and my digestive system is doing the best it can. I don't get angry with it now. A life coach that I worked with suggested I send my digestive system love. Sounds 'woo woo', but it helps. Don't laugh, but when things are difficult, I talk to my digestive system as if it were a distressed child. In the loo, where I'm unobserved!  :o

Thanks for that Ju Ju like you say it's accepting and knowing what works I suppose....

There is a new milk out that is not soy and not lactose free. I'm damned if I can remember what it's called though. It helps people who find milk difficult to digest.
It's A2 or A1 I think  :P

I hate the bloating and wind and the runs.....well I just hate my digestive system.

I can actually trace my developing IBS to the exact month and probably the day.

Mine is stress induced.

In my last house we had the neighbour from hell. One evening when we were watching golf on the TV she had a mad turn and starting kicking and banging on our front door. Hubby called the police and as the rest of my family listened to my neighbour getting arrested I was in the loo. And that was the start.

Definitely stress that! and a learned pattern of behaviour which continues to impact.  If you watch a bird in fright it will let a pooh go as it flies away ……… and many animals pee with fright ……
