Following on from my recent UTI infection, I finally returned to my GP after my holiday as I still wasn't sure if the AB had worked. A lab test found no infection but i still have slight vaginal discomfort. I asked whether I could try a cream and the GP gave me a prescription for Estriol cream (0.01%). i haven't tried it because, after leaving the GP, I discovered that it maybe shouldn't be used if you are taking Tegretol. I contacted the surgery today to find out what the GP was aware of this. Had she possibly forgotten about the Tegretol when she prescribed it? Unfortunately she was off work today. The receptionist suggested that I ask a pharmacist but that didn't help. I will have to contact the surgery again tomorrow.
Would just like to know if anyone has used/taken these together or had advice about any possible problem?
I only take the Tegretol as a precaution as I have been seizure free for over 30 years after surgery at 16.

Try a different chemist,a pharmacist is much more clued up usually than gp where possible drug interactions are concerned. Also your leaflets included with your medication will have a list of interaction too.

I don't yet have the leaflet in the box as the pharmacist had none in stock yesterday. Got a call from the GP today to say that she had checked the drug interactions but that she hadn't found a problem. Will go to a different pharmacist over the weekend to try and get the cream and also check the leaflet in the box.

Reading online it appears that Tegretol is not advised if using a birth control pill as it can interfere with absorption so it may be that rather than being dangerous using an Estriol cream may not be as effective when also taking Tegretol?
