Hello ladies
I'd say my story started 10 months ago but truly when I look back I realize I have been dealing with this through out my life whenever there's been hormonal changes. Nausea during puberty, horrifically sick during pregnancy, 4 years ago during peri when I was estrogen dominant and now my longest and hardest battle during menopause. I have had debilitating nausea for 10 months now, and yes I have tried all forms of anti-nauseants, have had a scope and biopsy of my stomach, uterian biopsy, and even a brain scan, all looking for reasons when I know in my heart it's hormones. Drs just don't believe nausea is a symptom of menopause. I have just now found a Dr who is on the same track as my thinking and we are now giving hrt a try. We are trying estrogell, 1 pump, but that seemed to make me sicker so we've cut that dose in half and trying it twice a day. It's only been 2 weeks and I really am not seeing much if any change so I'm wondering if there's anyone else who has had horrific nausea and what they did about it. I'm also getting really bad hot flashes, worse in the morning accompanied with boughts of anxiety. This menopause is a real kicker!! Thanks ladies

Of course hormones can cause nausea - what do GPs think morning sickness is caused by :bang:
:welcomemm: - what have you tried to combat the sickness? Ginger grated into hot water as a drink, ginger biscuits, ginger grated into food can all help. As can travel sickness tablets but these come with intense drowsiness ::)
There are many anti-emetics that a GP/Pharmacist can recommend.

Have you tried sea bands. I have always found them helpful especially when I was pregnant.....after all that was hormonal too.

Well ladies I have started with the normal over the counter nausea remedies, then went thru all the anti-emetics suggested by the pharmacist. I've tried sea bands and ginger everything. We've tried many anti-nauseants used for chemo patients and even down the road of anti-depressants. All of which usually left me feeling quite worse. Each specialist left shaking their head and not knowing what to do. Because I was so sick when my estrogen was high I'm feeling that now the opposite with levels so low that these same symptoms have returned.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I did read an old post of someone who sounded exactly like me and I believe it was about 3 months of hrt before her symptoms became bearable so hoping that I'm finally heading in the right direction but will have to be patient

Sorry to hear about your nausea. As far as I know it is caused by high oestrogen and especially a sudden increase which many women acclimatise to - but in your case maybe not if you were sick throughout prengancy?
The menopausal reason (for nausea) as far as I understand it is due to rapid increases in oestrogen that can occur at this time. What are your periods doing - and how have they been during the past few months - are you still peri-menopausal? It would be puzzling to feel nauseous when your oestrogen levels were low?

Is your body hungry = nausea? Did the GP try injections which stops vomiting? My dog always needed them if she got a 'bug' :-\

Have you tried a food diary to see if perhaps what you are eating is the cause. It's easy to blame hormones when other causes should be ruled out too.
My daughter has recently discovered she is lactose intolerant....it was only by excluding dairy that discovered it.
Have you been tested to see if you are gluten intolerant.
It might be helpful if you tried out a few things to see if there is something simple that's contributing to your nausea.
Just because you had bad morning sickness does not necessarily mean hormones now.

Bland foods then, little and often? i.e. grilled chicken with rice; slow release foods i.e. bananas or porridge [ :sick02: ].
Make a list of what you eat/drink daily to see if there are any triggers.

Although high estrogen is the usual cause (I think?), for me, it was definitely low (or fluctuating) estrogen. The nausea I get if it's hormonal is not like an upset tummy, but rather, as if I have too much gas in me but am unable to properly burp (sorry tmi). Sipping lemonade helps. I get it on the blank days of my pill still, though nothing like I did previously. Interestingly, we were discussing this at work yesterday and it was surprising how many ladies get nausea (or are actually sick) just before they come on and/or at the start of their periods.

Apparently flat 'Coca Cola' is very good to ease upper gut symptoms.

This is quite interesting to me as the first thing that sent me to seek an alternative regime of hrt after being settled for 5years on estelle duet was feeling nauseous for the last week of the cycle,it felt like what I imagine constant morning sickness to be like! So are you knowledgeable ladies saying that's a sign of high estrogen? :-\

I think it's different for different people. If you get it just before you come on, it must be low estrogen, surely? Perhaps it's the fluctuations themselves that cause problems? That would explain pregnancy and nausea too?

Currntly working my way through these posts, i have pretty much nausea every day! I work shifts and the earlier i start work, like 4am, the worse it gets! Going to get ginger tea see if it helps

When I was in my 20s I used to do shift work including nights.
I always felt sick around 3 to 4 am. Never really gave it much thought then.
I think it was a combination of tiredness and hunger as your body clock goes out of sync.
Perhaps try eating more regularly, small and often even if it's only nibbling on a biscuit or two.
My body never got used to night shift.

Dont let doctors tell you they have never heard of this symptom. That is what my doctor told me. I have had the morning nausea feeling just like I had in the first three months of pregnancy. It is very debilitating and can really get you down. Have tried stemetil on prescription, (prochlorazapine) and avomine travel sickness tablets. Try to get some toast down me when I wake. My opinion is this is definitely hormones. Menopause can be very very trying. Hope someone else may post with solutions!

Nausea was my first and worst symptom of peri. I had weeks and weeks of it resulting in my weight plummeting and anxiety soaring. I had days where if i managed a cracker i was doing well. It was horrendous and always worse on a morning and lifting slightly through the day. My GP and even the menopause clinic said it wasnt a typical symptom yet I keep hearing of other women with same symptoms.
I think for me it was the erratic fluctuation in hormones that caused the problem, not just one. It was the imbalance.
I'm now on Oestrogel 2 pumps and Utrogesten 200mg 14 days HRT with Citalopram for anxiety.
At my worst times i kept protein drinks in the fridge to sip through the day as having nothing on my stomach was as bad as the nausea, i just couldn't face food. Plain foods like rich tea biscuits, porridge, bananas, a few nuts, crumpets, toast were my lifeline and on good days i would eat what ever i fancied.
The hrt has helped but is not perfect. I have to be careful not to get hungry and still have bad days now and then, always felt first in my stomach.
I wish it was a more recognised symptom. I had endoscopies, colonoscopies, biopsies etc all normal and all scaring the life out of me!
