Title: Evoral 75 & climagist 1mg & vagifem - feeling achey
Post by: Peterspots on September 05, 2015, 06:58:16 AM
Hello. I was on here earlier with a rough ride with bladder/urethra pain & an awful time after a Cystoscopy & face spasms/pain. Seen a gynaecologist who finally examined me who sid I had VA, painful, boggy uterus. The ultrasound showed adenmyosis and a white inflammation area around my urethra. Started on evoral 75, climagist 1mg 1 week ago. Bits feeling ok but my ankles, knees, elbows feeling achey. Don't know if this would happen anyway or if it's a side effect & if this wears off? Thank you. I could just wait another week than contact consultant. Just would like a break! Face is feeling so full of pressure

Hi Peterspots

Glad you've had a diagnosis but sorry that you haven't seen improvement yet. Actually in terms of side effects - that's quite a high dose of oestrogen to start at once and I am also wondering why you have been given a fairly high dose patch on top of the Climagest? Did the gynae give a reason why? Usually the advice with replacing oestrogen is to start low and gradually build up to minimise side effects.

Where are you in menopause re periods etc and frequency of them and how old are you?

You could wait another week to see if the side effects settle - but I am wondering if you might need extra progestogen at some point - although maybe the consultant is giving you the high dose to build your levels up quickly because of your severe symptoms? S/he will have good reasons for this anyway!

Hope you feel better soon  :)

Hello, thank you for replying. She thought it would be good to does up & add progesterone in in October/November. It just didn't know if this was a side effect & it would ease but I will wait a week. It's just a bit demoralising. I did think about contacting her next week & maybe dropping the tablet for awhile. Do side effects ease from oestrogen once you are on it for awhile?  I'm 49 & 3/4 ☺️

Yes. I can't say it let alone spell it! It's the thing in your uterus like endometriosis

It's a tricky one to say!! Have you been given any information about it? As far as I can tell (my son's girlfriend has it together with endometriosis) it thrives on oestrogen and, so, gradually disappears once you are post meno. There are details here http://www.adenomyosisadviceassociation.org/default.html

It is good that you now have a diagnosis - I'm not sure about your facial pressure though?

Thank you. If my aching knees, ankles legs (could have been a long walk in boots I shouldn't have done) are from the patch or estrogen tablet will it ease or once you get the side effect it stays?
Title: Re: Evoral 75 & climagist 1mg & vagifem - feeling achey

Hmm - well if you think your aches and pains are from a long walk then surely that could well be the explanation for that particular symptom?! Most side effects from oestrogen settle quickly - after all this is our natural hormone we are replacing. Tablet oestrogen has to be digested and go through the liver but you haven't got any obvious side effects.

As Taz says not sure about the facial pressure unless it's part of a fuzzy head - which is a common reaction to sudden changes in levels of some hormones.

Above all try to stop worrying and concentrate on the fact that you will be feeling better soon - a positive mindset is part of the process to recovery!

Hello, the face pressure has been since January & is, I think thorough tension, anxiety, teeth clenching at night. The aches in my joints happened 4 days into patch but could be a coincidence. I just want to get back to normal & don't want it to be the evoral as I just want to be on it & get the benefit. Just need a habana hold. It's like 1 step forward & 2 steps back. I don't want to be the one that keeps saying I'm aching. I hate it that stress comes out in my body. So yes, positive mindset & hope it all eases.

Hello. Been on evoval patches for 10 days & bladder symptoms have flared.  Hoping this would have happened anyway. Does the esteogen have to build like an antidepressant or does it work straight away. Really disappointed as wanted to put this bad year behind me

Hi Peterspots -  sorry to hear your symptoms have flared. as far as I know the Evorel patches should not have any negative effect on your bladder but I stand to be corrected if this can be a common side effect. Progestogens do often affect the bladder though. Oestrogen works on two levels ( maybe more ) one level is more complex and involves metabolic processes within the cells which takes more time - patches usually work quicker than tablets for many women but long term benefits may take several weeks eg when women use Vagifem it takes at least two weeks to start to feel the benefit.

Hope you see an improvement

Just feeling so low tonight. I am taking all the medication &y bladder feels worse. Sorry for tmi but the consultant started me on glucobay which is for
Glucose intolerance which Is something they do with the oestrogen to help it absorb. It has given me really bad wind &
I don't know if that is knocking me or it's just a reaction to the oestrogen. Don't know why that would be. I just feel so upset today. I thought I was beating it all. Got to buck up I know.  Just wanted to tel someone. It's been such a rotten year

Gynaecologist did think my symptoms were related to menopause. Just hate it when you think your getting somewhere. Legs aching, face & now bladder pelvis. Just feel awful

Hello. Had a call from my consultant as the joint Muscle pain has increased. I've now got to stop the climaval 1mg &
Evorel 75 and just use evorel 50. I feel absolutely awful with aches &
Pains i didn't have 10 days ago. I know I'm looking for reassurance its side effects. I just can't seem to find anyone who has had muscle/joint pain as a side effect. I'm going to have to ride it out.

I'm down from the 175 to the 50 but I don't feel any better yet. I know no one has experienced this but my joints are hurting and my legs and my hands and feet are fizzing. Don't know whether to come off all together or if this will cause me more problems. I don't know how long to wait and contact the consultant again. It is a really horrible strange feeling.

Thank you. I've only had the joint & fizzing feeling a week into taking the hrt. Oestrogen only & my face is fizzing more. So I just don't know what's going on. It's like I've got fizzing all over my body. Don't know whether to just stop the hrt or something else is going on with me.  My body is also twitching. Other than the problem with my face.  I've not had anything like this before.

Dont know if its the hrt causing my body to aches.  Its just one thing after another.  I have been on the hrt for 1 month now.

Had an awful night. My hips & back, bits & face hurt. I want to stay on hrt (maybe not this one) as I think it will help my VA & the other odd stuff going on in my body but I don't know if it is causing the joint, muscle pain.  Feel like I'm going to crack again. (Be upset & make myself worse) just trying to carry on but I just get up & another part is sore. I'm struggling with it.

Peterspots - I am so sorry you are having such a rough ride at the moment but things will improve.

I am no expert but I don't think your aches and pains are a side effect  of hrt I think it may just be pure coincidence that they have started at the same time.

Aches and pains are definitely a symptom of menopause. I have sore feet, calves thighs, arms and fingers which all got significantly worse when I came off hrt. These sore muscles came on before hrt and whilst I didn't actually recognise any improvement when I started hrt I certainly noticed the difference when I stopped so that was how I knew it was oestrogen related !

You must try not to chop and change from one hrt to another unless your doctor advises . It takes a good 3 months for the  hrt to be fully effective and if you swap to another too early you may be swapping from a good one that your gp thinks would suit you to one not so good.

Do you excercise at all ? Walking gently is supposed to be good and I try and go for a stroll up the lane if I can, the weather is good at the moment  - I think it helps my mood :)

You may well find that when you start taking the progesterone things will improve or be different again. Persevere if you possibly can and give it time to settle.

Hope today is ok for you  :)

Thank you. I'm so despondent. I've had my face tingling for 8 months & its really wearing me down. Then my VA or uterus problem. It was better for 2 weeks on the vagifem/hrt but is worse again & now the aches. They have improved to be swapped with hips. Had a really rotten year while they've tried to decide was wrong including not being able to feel sensation in my bladder after a pretty horrific cystoscope. I'm just worn out by it all :(

I'm sorry for all that you're going through. I'm also dealing with many symptoms at the moment too and I know all too well the feeling of despondency. I've recently had another flare of joint pain, muscle pain, tendon pain, mostly everywhere in my body.  I've been in so much pain since mid September so I decided to buy a TENS machine.  It really does help.  The last two days the pain has really improved.  Nothing to do with the machine, just think it the flare is leaving... still have joint pain in my thumb, but my back pain is hardly noticeable now.  This is all so weird.  Just contending with muscle twitching now which is another worry.

Feel better.

Woke up with sore knees hips ankles wrist on top of my face and bits.  I didn't have the joints four weeks ago. Really loosing the will. Is this a side effect or the menopause happening or is something going on. Can't bear the joint pain. It's too much on top of everything. Contacting consultant today. Feel I'm failing by not carrying on on the evorel. I took femseven & didn't hsve these problems. (Only for a month as gp was just testing it). Feel desperate now.

Why not change back then if you felt better.

For now if I were you I would just stop. Then you would know for sure if it's HRT that's causing this unusual side effect. If you feel better then maybe HRT in this form is not suitable for you.

Yes you can just stop. If you don't how will you know if the HRT is the cause or not. The worse that will happen is hot flushes will return if you had them before.
Just remove the patch and see if the pains begin to go. HRT is not like ADs which have to be tapered down.

I really think it would be for the best and what have you got to loose....

Been to see gynaecologist. She has suggested changing to estrogel & also the evorel 25. I have been given estradot 25.  Is there a difference between evorel or estradot.  As I think I have had a reaction I may prefer to continue with the estradot. Another option is to start with the esteogel & see if it effects my joints. They have improved since stopping the evorel. If this does not work the gynaecologist may suggest I go on the BCP to even out my hormones. Another option is a hysterectomy but I would prefer not to do that.

Anyone have any comment on whether I should finish this period before startong yhe estrogil and possibly estradot 25. I do wonder as I am having periods before I started estrogen I should have progesterone? I am considering the BCP but becuase I am nearly 50 I didn't know if that was a problem. Still sore but hoping vagifem kicks in. I'm struggling with all my aches. My face is still pressure/tingling had massage Friday & have exercises to do. The joint pain (possibly side effect from evorel is getting less & less - been off for two weeks) pulled on my Achilles last night at yoga. So feel so bruised & battered. What to do next......start the estrogel on its own been told 1/2 pumps 3x day with an estrodot patch 25 (or evorel) I wondered whether to start really slowly with 1 pump a day for a week as I don't want the joint pain to come back (if it was a side effect). I am taking hrt/vagifem for the bladder/urethra pelvic pressure. I was hoping it may help with the 8 months of face pressure (I know that's a long shot). I was happy taking the hrt it's only becuase of the the joint pain that I stopped. I just had a period as I think the estrogen stopped them & it made my urethra hurt so much. I am so scared now of more pain/making things worse by taking/not taking the hrt. It did make me much calmer. It's been a rough 8 months & I don't have much steam left.

I was really confused by your name change! There is another English Rose whom you will be very easily confused with although I see she hasn't been on the forum for a few months....

The general advice is to start slowly with oestrogen to minimise side effects and I presume your gynae has recommended this? Did you say you take a progestogen to protect your womb and are you having scans - or  have you had a hysterectomy? Sorry I can't remember. Also whether you are peri-menopausal - presumably as you have just had a period?

Hope you feel better soon and manage to sort something out that is right for you!

Gynae wants me to start with 2 pumps x 3 times a day with the estrodot patch as well. As I had joint pain as a side effect I wanted to start slowly. it has been 2 weeks off the evorel & the joint pains have almost gone. I am using vagifem & I am having the 2 week loading again now.

I have not been offered the progesterone until the bladder/urethra odema has settled as the consultant feels it contributes to inflammation.

My blood test show I am in menopause.

I am almost 50.

Finding it hard to stay positive with constant tingling face & the bladder/pelvic problem. I was hoping the latest massage therapist would ease it considerably  my jaw is looser but I've almost gone constant tingling. I would just like to make the right choices & find some way of getting relief.

I emailed my consultant to ask what exactly is wrong with me. The reply was could be your hormones or it may not. Just feel no one knows what's wrong with me. My VA bladder/pelvic & face. I just feel this nightmare will ever end. Can it be hormones. Am I so unusual they don't know what's wrong :(

Esteogel gave me joint pain. Now trying estrodot. Think I may have to see if it continues or fades. Poster said earlier that it can go after the 3 months or the body has settled. Saw gp about face & he is referring me to face pain clinic. Feel so sad

Sorry that you are feeling so sad EnglishRose but hopefully the face pain clinic will be able to help with these symptoms at least.

I am on Estradot and find it hasn't caused any joint pain.
