Title: Hot sweats - do they follow a pattern?
Post by: Lynda07 on July 29, 2015, 09:21:45 PM
Hi,

I have recently started having hot sweats. There is no denying what it is. But it comes mainly each evening around the same time. I literally break into a sweat and a feeling of intense heat takes over my body. But I expected them to be more random, say, throughout the day.  I am waking up wet through in the night occasionally but then again it is summer.

I am 51. Is this kind of thing typical  of peri menopause hot flushes?

Thank you 😃

Lynda

It happened to me  -  after my bath, after I had taken my evening meds (ADs and BBs) I would have a wet 'glow' from the back of my neck, across my shoulders down to my waist.  Then it would dry after about 10 mins. and I would forget: until the next night ……. my periods at that time were intermittent.

Hi Lynda. Mine did follow a pattern. In the beginning they were at night and the also in the evening. They gradually began to be a certain distance apart - in the end every twenty minutes - and this then became day and night. It took around two years for them to fall into this pattern though and it was then that I finally went onto HRT. I didn't want to really but it became impossible to do my job effectively.

Mine are mainly at night, I seem to wake up then get that feeling of heat spreading, rather than the heat waking me up, is that the same for everyone.

I do get the occasional one in the day but I'm guessing that may increase?

Yes I used to wake up before the actual sweat started - I reckon it's the increased adrenaline that did that. As they became more frequent it was quite handy as I'd get out of bed before I started sweating so no horribly wet sheet!

Not everyone finds they increase libby - you might be one of the lucky ones.

I am fine until I move in bed then the heat swamps me - awful.

At work they are pretty bad - noticed its the change in temperatures that triggers them too. :(

mine started about 5 years ago when I was 53 and followed a similar pattern, mostly in the evenings to start with then over the next 3 years they became more random and seemed to like playing games with me.  They also became stronger.  I had flushes at night but never soaking sweats so I was fortunate.

I still get random flushes but these days they are milder and I get a lot less of them.  Some days I don't get one at all then one pops out and goes 'boo'!!!

Mine are light, but I get these episodes of fever-feeling on my face and neck sometimes. Usually interspersed with shivers, but those are all over my upper body. They tend to be daytime events. Night sweats were more prevalent before. For some odd reason... I would get them during the week leading up to my period. But very seldom lately.

Thanks for all your replies. Sounds like these could get worse a long time before they get better.

And just beacuse I said this about night sweats, I woke up in a big sweat last night. But I should be about 5 days away from my period so that's probably the reason. I felt sweaty all over and just full of dread (almost nightmarish...). No fun... :(

Well in just the short time since my original post I am having many more than I did. At least 20 yesterday. So I don't need to worry about whether they come at the same time of day or not - they are just coming when they feel like it.

I didn't sleep well last night - woke every hour, wet through - the lack of sleep will get me :(

Do any of you drink? I have a beer or two most nights - any real evidence no alcohol makes it better? Have been recommended oils and soya tablets too - not sure what to do.

just to answer that one, fellow namesake :)  I dont drink, I used too - but though never a heavy drinker as it would give me a bad head more than two glasses of wine, I went to organic wine then couldn't drink a thing, any alcohol now makes me ill ::)

I am thinking of trying 'sage' heard good things about that for flushes, just till I get to see the nurse in a couple of weeks time.  Anyone tried that? results?

SadLynda there is a thread somewhere on sage but I'm blowed if I know where it is.  It was some weeks ago.

Yes alcohol makes them worse....but .....if you drink enough then you don't notice them  ;D

Only kidding.

Any hot drinks in the evening used to bring mine on. Then I knew when I went to bed about two hours later I would be soaking. I would get up and dry off and wander to the kitchen. I wouldn't go back to bed until the next one came and went about half an hour later. The daytime ones were much more random but as soon as I sat down to eat a hot meal off I would go again......bloody horrible things.

Most things in life have a purpose or a reason.....not these....they are the devils work  ::)

I wonder whether I avoided flushes because I had been taking ADs for years prior to peri-meno, this thought arrived in my brain at 6.45 this evening  ::)

Wine is wine organic or not  ;) ……………

Alcohol may increase problems generally.
