we are using our potatoes for a couple of weeks now which we have grown in bags and wondering when when plant more ? advise please
-
Have a look in the garden centres to see if they are on sale. It may be too late now. We have been pulling ours for 3/4 weeks, grown in bags on the patio.
I think if you plant a specific variety now they will be ready for C.mas lunch ;)
-
good idea clkd, will look for the ones which will be ready for christmas :)
-
If you look on the Buckingham Garden web-site you may find what is available to plant and when. Or buy some and plant them to see what happens?
There are so many varieties available!

I love fresh potatoes - have fresh peas to get out of the pods straight into the mouth later ;)
-
me too and our peas are coming along not quite ready yet its our first attempt at growing veg and we are really pleased, we have tomatoes, strawberries ,potatoes, peas, carrots lettuce, runner beans and spring cabbage :)
-
Well done you!
-
thank you, we have them all in pots and hanging baskets, its trial and error but we are enjoying it :)
-
You can get autumn potatoes in most garden centres now to plant in late summer, early autumn.
We have tried them and every single time have lost them to potatoe blight. Hopefully you will have more luck.

I went to The Chelsea Flower Show many years ago and a Company were growing every veg. in hanging baskets: trailing tomatoes, chillies, string beans, French beans, peas ……… takes a lot of watering though!
-
yes we have trailing tomatoes and strawberries and the do need a lot of watering but they have lots of fruit :)
-
We are very far behind this year but we have had potatoes a singular beetroot .....and our first tomatoes which are black ones and were lovely.

we have 3 centres locally and couldnt get them we will go earlier next year, when did you get yours ?
-
It was in May I think.
There are lots of places online too. Marshals is one and Unwins another. You can register on both websites and they will send you reminders of what's available and when. I've used both companies and they were both good.

Time to buy those spuds ;)
-
Bought and chitting in the spare room :)
-
Bought - Himself will set them chitting soon. I wanted Pink Fir Apple but he went for an early - apparently ::)
-
I can't remember what I bought... labels are sitting next to the spuds. I think one lot are King Edwards... possibly ;D
-
Once they are slavered with hot butter it don't really matter. Pink Fir Apple hold their shape regardless of what is done to them ::)
