I'm 54 and not had a period for about 9 months. Have tried hrt but that caused bleeding so stopped. Now only using ovestin cream for severe atrophy. I have now started a period (stomach cramps, major blood loss) and wondered if using just the ovestin cream could be causing this. My GP told me my oestragen levels must be very low as the atrophy was so severe and I had very low mood so am now confused as to why I am bleeding. Has anyone got any ideas? Also is there any medication that I could take to control the heavy flow as I drive for up to 5 hours a day and can't get to a toilet easily. Thanks.

If your only on a local estrogen option then any heavy bleeding should be investigated immediately.
There are others who have been through the drill so perhaps they can reassure you more soon.
Do not panic, but your doc should be sending you to investigate this asap.
