Just thought that as we usually condemn the medical profession,me included ! We dont see many positive posts so here we go.
My gyne gave me his personal email and asked me to keep him updated as to how I was doing, well I'd been researching something, which I will report if it pans out later,so I emailed him with my progress and asked him about said research, within 10 minutes he replied by saying he was out of the country attending a funeral ! But he was very interested in my research and would look into it on his return and email me again. Needless to say I was horrified that I had imposed at such a time but I figured he didn't have to read it or reply if it wasn't convenient :-\
But just thought he deserved a mention in dispatches !

Wow! What a star! It is so encouraging to hear about the caring, committed members of the medical profession. Glad you have found one.

dazned - how wonderful to be able to communicate by email. I wish we could do this more with our GPs and specialists. When my mother-in-law was going downhill with dementia I was able to email back and forth with her GP - I was careful not to bombard but it was so useful. I can understand that doctors would be reluctant to give out personal mobile numbers and emails in case they get inundated and end up spending all their time responding to emails.
I personally think that emailing would be a good way to reduce visits to the doctors if handled correctly - it would also give us evidence when poor or negligent advice is given, which is probably why doctors don't like to do this. DG x

I have a NHS consultant endocrinologist who is one of the best in his field who I can e mail and I also have a mobile number for emergencies. His secretary is also available when he is out of the country.
My thyroid is quite unstable and this excellent doctor looks after me very well and nothing is too much trouble. He will ring me at home if necessary to save me a long motorway drive to the hospital where I see him.
There are good medics out there on the NHS, pity we don't hear more about them.
