Title: Night Sweats/Insommia/Anxiety/Flushes
Post by: karenja on May 11, 2015, 05:28:40 PM
Hi only me back again, Ive been a little better I suppose, the anxiety Im still getting and more often than not every day, Im happy to say I haven't has a panic attack in ages, but the chest tightness and palpations still come and go.

Happy to say since I saw the cardiologist and he put my mind at rest, even though I still get chest pains occasionally I know its not my heart, also I am conquering my exercise anxiety  and have started walking sometimes just a mile, yesterday did three :) it helps me feel better and I think helps with anxiety too.

The one thing that has come back with avengence is my night sweats and flushes, the night sweats mean Im not getting sleep, Im waking dripping wet and also feel sick with it and sometimes get palpatations, with the night sweats as most probably know you soon cool down, but Im shattered, also flushes in the day are back had lots today.

HRT  definitely sorted flushes and night sweats without a doubt, but Ive been off it ages now and don't want to go back so rather than me search through lots of posts, has anybody found something other than hrt to help please??, tried Starflower that didn't help me.

Currently taking a sage tablet a day along with vitamin b complex and b12 combined from Holland and Barrett, Im sure I read on here that B3 is good for anxiety too, but I could not find that in H&B, I take rescue remedy when I wake at night if Im anxious and drink camomile tea in the evening well most evenings.

Any help would be appreciated I really need sleep xx

Sorry to read you're still suffering karenja. I've come off HRT twice but each time the relentless hot sweats have driven me back to it. For me it's the only thing that's worked long term.  Is there a particular reason why you don't want to start taking it again.

Hi Taz, I couldn't get on with any of the progesterones that was the main thing and the last dr I saw more or less advised me to stay off it because of the risks x

I can't remember but did you try the oestrogen patch or cream with Utrogestan. It seems to be better tolerated and you could do a long cycle if your GP agreed.

Might be worth considering.

The only other option is an AD. A low dose can be used to help with flushes. I can remember which one though.

I don't know if this will help but when I had night sweats , I slept with 4 ice packs wrapped in tea towels . One on my feet and the rest in strategic places. It kept me cool and helped me to sleep .

Think the AD is citlopram HB.

Hi Karenja

I tried all the herbal remedies. I even paid a lot of money to see a private naturopath. I cut out caffeine and sugar. Nothing worked. I'm afraid that if your symptoms are severe then you need the big guns, and that means HRT.

Clonidine helps some with flushes/sweats. Citalopram is supposed to help too. My GP has given me that option if needs be as I'm weaning myself off HRT. Have also heard that Gabapentin helps some also.

Never had much luck with herbal stuff, but should have saved my money.

Hi Karen

just to help others that are putting in there 10 cents worth.

Is it possible to tell us which HRT's/AD you've already tried and how long you were on each for?

If someone has tried different then perhaps they can chip in with an alternative for you.

Hope you get something that works soon.

Hi ive tried lots of hrt preps, elleste duet, ultrogestan and everol patches to name a few, Ive tried citalopram too, Im wondering if anxiety is not helping the anxiety as I get them worst when Im stressed x

Sorry also tried estradot patches the ultrogestan I found these great but hated ultrogestan, I think I've tried every progesterone type and didn't get on with them the longest was everol I think for three months, doesn't seem there is much option other than hrt or ad's, nothing herbal seems to work x

I wish there was something more natural to take.  You probably have but have you tried menopace?  I'm thinking of trying it myself.

Hi, I have tried various herbal remedies including menopace - none of which have really helped much and I'm still having awful flushes and night sweats - four and a half years now and can't seem to see any light at the end of the tunnel sadly. So far have resisted HRT but some days I wonder how much more I can take.
Not tried sage - does anyone have good results using it?

I've decided that I must win the competition for the most sweat released from a human body at night!  ??? Having boasted recently that my sweats weren't that bad (having been awful a year ago but then disappeared) for the past 6 weeks I've dripped with sweat nearly all night! I've wondered if I have a terrible illness but think it's those darned hormones again grrrr
Like you ladies, all I want is a good nights sleep!

It's a horrible sensation. I used to take spare clothes into work so that I could change halfway through the day. Soggy bra and knickers - not a good feeling!

Im sorry I know nothing about HRT etc
But I do kow that no matter what herbal health remedies u try most cant hurt BUT they also dont help
If they did the person who invented them would be richer than BILL GATES theres nothing natural
]That works inf=def. Some people get help re internal by Sylk etc and it works but most in the end
Have to resort to Internal HRT via cream or pressaries. Beta Blocas have you heard of them?
I was given and still use them occasionally they do help for me better than AD did
Not too sure how they work but they stop the feeling of fear and palpatations if you have them too?
It takes 1/2 weeks to work though with me it only took 3 days to stop the palps and 2 weeks for fear.
As for flushes helloo I havent had a persiod for 20 yrs and sad to say get 1 or 2 a day they went for yrs
They have resumed for me as Tax and CLKD said probably Vagifems not enough but HRT no way and
Now at my age over 60 they wouldnt even consider it. So Id write a list f you can remember
The exact HRTs oyuve been given and the ADs that went with them that DIDNT work take it to GP
Make a long appt and sit down and show him/her and explain they want to help u not harm u xxx

Herbal remedies aren't invented, they're naturally occurring rather than a collection of chemicals.

Before HRT I found Valerian helped me but also knocked me out the next day too. With a lot of these things - including HRT and other drugs - it's about finding the right balance for you, and often giving them time too. It's also about finding what works for you, as you can see from a lot of threads on here, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.

The key thing for me is the anxiety, I find that if I've nothing to worry about, I can sleep so much better and I think  that's where the HRT has helped me, the oestrogen has reduced my anxiety levels so there's less to bother me during the night.

I do hope you find some relief soon,
GG x

Thank you all again I'm sat here after having yet another restless night due to
The fact I ebeen dripping in sweat, feeling sick oh and the palpatations are back, I will read through all suggestions see what I've tried and what I haven't, there is no doubt hrt  helps sweats, flushes and anxiety and if it wasn't for the progersterone and I suppose worry over the risks I'd be back on it, spent so much on herbal remedies that don't help x

Not sure it will help you karenja but 'natural' and worth a shot. I've been taking l-theanine 100mg morning and night. May help with sleep and anxiety. It's pretty neutral/super low risk and MAY have helped with my anxiety and possibly sleep.
