Is feeling weak and wobbly part of the meno? There are some days where I feel like my legs wont carry me, they do of course but they feel sort of weak. I of course think it is a symptom of something awful but then again every twinge I get is something awful as my health anxiety has reached new heights. I have decided that this anxiety must also be meno related. I was always a bit of a hypochondriac but never like this. I never go to the GP though I just have it all in my head
The other thing I have noticed lately is I sometimes get an acidic burning sensation just below the breastbone that sometimes wakes me up. Lots and lots of burping ensues - is this meno too?????
On the plus side the flushes and night sweats have vastly improved

Yep. and. Yep!
Try eating earlier in the evening and if heartburn is a problem in the night, use 3 pillows. I have to take rennies if I take my evening meds then get straight into bed.
My thighs feel week and wobbly all the while even in bed. I think it's because I don't exercise as much as I ought to!
You seem to be within normal limits ;)

I have a massive health anxiety at the moment and my legs feel weak and wobbly too - I'm not sure if it's just anxiety or part of what I'm worried about but it's horrible.
That said, I've just come back from the gym where I was using the free weights and my legs were fine. It makes no sense.

Depends on when we execirse in relation to eating probably!

Feeling weak and wobbly sound very normal for peri. Also the heartburn.
I have found there is now a list of food that give me heartburn that never did before, especially fizzy drinks and white bread.

Hi gilaray,
I get the weak and wobbly feelings too... and my stomach, which used to be cast-iron in construction, is now sensitive to lots of things - I had a cracking dose of heartburn last weekend. I ended up sleeping propped up till I could get a hold of some zantac. I was burping like mad to relieve the burn :o Now that's subsided, I have rumbly guts which are making me feel anxious - it's a vicious cycle. Every little thing my body does that is unexpected or uncomfortable makes me feel anxious. I doubt I would have notice most of them five or ten years ago.

I've just posted a weblink in the 'Acid reflux' thread you might find helpful.

I totally sympathise. I have always been a bit 'glass half full' but health anxiety would be fleeting. Now it dictates my life! I can have three/four serious illnesses before breakfast and my husband is getting sick of what he calls 'toothgate' [am obsessed by gum disease caused by receding gums, one tooth out already and implant pending...].
I deal with it by telling myself I am having a day off. Today is my birthday, so whilst am working at home [or wasting time on here!] I am having a day off from my health. My 40 or 45 year old self would find this absolutely pathetic, but it works for me.
I have a male friend who has been crippled by health anxiety to the extent where he can't take holidays. His wife insisted he paid for a full body scan check-up. Nothing was found - he was in great physical shape. Has it helped? Not really - he is now convinced they missed something or he was not tested for something rare he has got.
Distraction works for me - I can have a definite physical symptom that disappears when I am teaching, only to return the minute I think 'oh, that chest pain has gone'.
The power of the mind...

I feel just the same as you all at the moment and I am so fed up of it all. Been really good now for a month or so and thought I was getting back to something like my normal self. Out of the blue for no reason I can fathom, sweats are back, feeling anxious, stomach doing somersaults etc. .I' m 8 years post menopause and really hoped everything was settling down. Not on HRT but take citalopram which has really helped- hope it's just a blip. DH tries to be sympathetic but gets frustrated when I can't really explain how I feel except to say, 'rubbish'..
Sorry about the moan, hope we all feel better soon. Will now go and do something useful and put the washing on.

Thorntrees - I started citalopram in December for continual anxiety and panic attacks, 10mg, it helped but made me very 'flat' and tired. I am weaning off, was ok on 1/2 a tablet for two weeks, but now on a quarter and really anxious.
How long have you taken it and what level? I am wondering if I should go back to half a tablet and stick on it for a while. I take oestrogen as well but think that adds to anxiety.
-
Hi rebelyell . I've been on citalopram for a year now, always at 10mgs in the morning. My GP said at least a year to see if it helps and it does. I have had the odd blip before so am hoping things will settle soon. I know if I go back to the GP she will suggest upping the dose to 20mgs which is considered the therapeutic dose but I don't want to do that as I do feel they upset my digestive system to some extent which I can put up with to get the benefits but wouldn't like to be any worse.. I always feel that I never really know if the anxiety causes the physical problems or the sweats etc cause the anxiety, I do know if you come off the tablets you do have to do it very slowly as even a small dose has a long half life and stays in the body for some time, I have read that the whole process of withdrawal can take months rather than weeks so maybe you are trying to do it too fast if you are feeling more anxious again, is your GP helping you come off?.

Am following GP instructions, but not sure she is that experienced with ADs as she didn't think there would even be side effects! Like you I have digestive problems on them and don't want them to get any worse. I was told to do half a tablet a day for two weeks, then quarter for 2 weeks, then quarter every other day for two weeks.
Was fine for first two weeks, it is the reduction this week that is the problem - but it may settle down next week. Will see - if am same by end of fourth week on a quarter tablet, I will go back to GP and am going to ask for referral to meno clinic. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the replies ladies
I never knew that stomach probs caused by declining estrogen can be part of the meno
Like some of you I have always had a cast iron constitution
Rebelyell I love your comment about 3 or 4 serious illnesses before breakfast - sounds just like me lol
-
:foryou: :hbday: Rebyll!
I hope that the GP has given you proper medication rather than expecting you to cut tablets 'cos it DON'T work!
-
Lack of oestrogen causes laxity of muscles + hernia = heartburn.
-
Hello gilaray.
As you can tell, digestive issues are also a common problem with the menopause. My trusty book explains that our hormones affect gut motility with oestrogen speeding everything up and progesterone slowing it down. Apparently constipation is more likely as we get further into the menopause.
On this journey I've kind of toyed with health anxiety. I wondered if my headaches were a brain tumour ( my mother died of one ) and thought my painful feet were arthritis ( turns out it is where I've been resting them on the edge of the coffee table ) however I do fret a lot about my bowels with any gurgling sending me into a panic.
I am one of the ladies who suffers from the regular quivery, jittery, ill at ease type hormonal anxiety and that seems to dominate at the moment!
Sending hugs your way. Take care.

Thanks for the birthday wishes CKLD! Feeling quite positive today!

You are welcome :cupcake:
How are you celebrating?

It was yesterday, went for meal and my present is a spa day next week can't wait!

Yes this all sounds so familiar. Like a lot of the posts say, never had any probs with stomach issues until i entered this delightful phase.
I have also noticed this weak wobbly feeling in my legs when walking (which is a new one to my other probs)and of course with the anxiety it will be something worse....NOT. What a journey this is. Keep your chin up i have heard that there is light at the end of the tunnel, but it is a heck of a long tunnel. ;)
-
… as long as the light at the end isn't that train coming towards me :o
I have never worried that it will be anything worse than vomiting bug …….. had cancer, undergone lots of dental treatment, if I take medication for a head ache and the pain goes away ……..
-
I love this forum. You learn new stuff all the time.
I never realised that low oestrogen can cause bowel/stomach problems? My period finally arrived last weekend, over a week late, and with it came the horrible anxiety/jittery feelings and random insomnia :'(
But just to make the experience even more delightful my stomach has been gurgling like mad, and I have had diarrhoea every day for the last 6 days :( I have been trying to eat normally and regularly, but everything is just going straight through me. I have lost 4lbs this week as a result :-\
-
Could be hormone upheaval. I remember that when I was menstruating regularly, if my period was going to come on I would have a bout of 'the runs' 10 mins before the bleed began - particularly if I wasn't 'due' a period >:( which made travelling anywhere at all impossible 'cos when I had to go ……. so our days out, holidays, long walks were routed round my calendar ::) ……… is the diarrhoea painful, cramping, watery, bloody? if not it's almost certainly HORMONES :-X …….
-
Hi CLKD :)
Yes, looking back to when my periods were heavier and more 'normal' I would often get diarrhoea just a few hours before my bleed. I'd forgotten that.
At the moment my diarrhoea isn't watery, or bloody. Just very, very loose and when I have to go I need to go NOW :o
-
Yep. That sounds familiar. OK if you aren't planning any trips!
