Title: Anyone with OCD
Post by: toffeecushion on March 15, 2015, 09:54:58 AM
Does anyone with OCD find it worse during perimenopause?  When I don't feel well my health anxiety kicks in and it makes my OCD really bad.  Have woken with a headache today and my anxiety and OCD are through the roof.  Am trying hard to just relax and accept the feelings but it is difficult.  My period is due any day so am guessing that has a lot to do wit it :(

Thanks for replying.  I too have just had a good spell which makes this even worse.  Can't wait for this to be all over.

Hi,
I was diagnosed with OCD 10 years ago and have found that meno symptoms can bring it on.
So far I'm on a good run. I take medication for the OCD and have had therapy so I can learn to manage it.

Hi, I have OCD tendencies too. Only since I've entered peri. It drives me mad some days because I can't relax unless I have done everything a certain way etc. never been like this before xxx

It's hard when it takes hold, I just can't fight it.

Yes I suffer too ever since peri menopause started.  It's only at certain times of the month.

I am having cbt and therapist thinks I have mild ocd (which made me even more anxious!!) I am coming out of a bad spell at the moment but having to work at it night and day. When I entered Peri 3 years ago my GP said she thought I had GAD which scared me !! and now they are saying mild ocd. I know I like things neat and tidy and do feel more relaxed when everything is done BUT isn't everyone like that? I must say my home has NOT been neat for years as its a busy family home and I tend to be fairly untidy myself.  I am a bit obsessional over new projects, always have been and will abandon all housework to make a pair of curtains  ::)
I have had 3 depressive episodes over the years, 2 in Peri and 1 after one of our children was born so my problems are definitely linked to hormones. I am currently too frightened to read up on OCD as my worrying is not good at the moment
Mine heightens at period week and its nasty and all consuming x

It can be controlling but remember, most of us have a tendency to be within the autistic spectrum/OCD habits which don't take over.  Stress can make it worse and our bodies react.

I find that I wash my hands a lot more when stressed so I make a list of when I ought to wash them so that I can tick it off each time - that makes me aware of how much more I head for the taps  ::) and as for nail biting ……… I nibble away ……

I get bothered in my head with all the 'stuff' around but only in the early hours  :-\ - in the day I can ignore it all.  I nail pick the skin round too always have done, I do wear gloves occasionally - surprising how often my fingers go to my gob  ;)

I tweeze my chin hairs [see appropriate thread]  ::) and wriggle my toes/feet continually ben when asleep …….
