WEll I really wish that type of diet helped me. All the pulses etc give me dreadful diarrhoea so I have to be very careful not to overdo these highly healthy things. Sadly it doesn't always help but its good to try it anyway and its a good diet to follow for general health at any age. DG x

It's good to see an article in the media that actually acknowledges the existence of menopause symptoms but the diet is not a 'one size fits all' formula - unfortunately, like Dancing girl I can't eat the majority of things on that list owing to lifelong IBS that has worsened since the onset of menopause.
-
Thanks for posting this Jenna. I don't usually look at the news (except for a quick flick to the beeb on the ipad in the morning) so I would have missed it.
It will be interesting to see what they say during the week; especially reference to the latest thinking etc.
I hope they're articles are objective and emphasise that we are all different. I don't eat a diet quite the same as the one they suggest, but do eat well and that hasn't helped much! xx
-
Well I wish we all could SAIL through this time of our lives ;D
They obviously haven't been in some of our shoes! As you say it will be interesting to see what they have to say about hrt,I bet it won't be favourable,my specialist calls them all sorts ! ;)
-
Soy, unless the fermented Japanese stuff ( cant remember what its called) is proven to be no good for any of us including animals. NOt sure either about too many pulses , moderation in everything,
-
My diet is very similar to the one in this article. However I can hardly say I am "sailing" through menopause! More like my boat is being slammed into the rocks from time to time. This is no pleasure cruise ::)
The recommendations are probably a pretty good idea. But they make it sound a little easier than it is. ;D
-
I like that comment Sammy - the boats slammed into rocks - lovely!!
Has anyone seen the second article? I thought the one from last week said it was going to be a different topic each day this week. I can't find anything!
-
If you search for Mail Online yes love alive, you will find it. I thought it probably not wise to post a link as there is a lot of advertising!
-
Just read the latest article. Really good. Covered libido, anxiety and mood changes plus Vaginal and bladder problems. Quotes and advice from top gynaes and links to other sites as well as MM.
Does seem to push certain products though - Jenna, I understand you concern about posting the link on this site.
Still a good article. DG x

Today's article, girls, is about menopause symptoms.

Sorry but as soon as I read this I was looking for what they were selling/advertising.
"The good news is that simple lifestyle changes can do much to ease all but the most severe"
Lo and behold I didn't have to wait long as at the bottom of the article they have an advert for someones "related" business.
If only it were this easy.
Perhaps this "easy" approach and view is truly at the heart of the problem.
:-*
-
Made the mistake of reading the 'comments', at the bottom of the article.
Now in a menopausal RAGE :cuss: :diablo: :argue:
-
I had a look too but gave up!
Which ones most annoyed you Rosebud ???
:-*
-
Oh way too many to list here. All by men naturally, whose ignorance was phenomenal.
But there you go. I hope I've managed to teach my own sons to be more open minded and understanding.
-
I think we ladies have some blame on that front imho.
We keep so much of our peri/meno stuff so locked up and secret, we don't know it much ourselves :o
So its no surprise we attract the idiots when these things eventually get discussed.
I did tend to knock my DH down in flames when he tried to help or understand earlier in peri.
Even when I was pre peri, I'd sometimes just be nasty to him just because I felt hormonal.
That got worse when I started into the peri years.
I feel bad now that I was not more open and just said "look I'm feeling a bit unwell/off/peeping awful.
Even if he tried to ask/help I'd be even worse with him rather than just say "yes, handle with care dear" :)
On the whole I try to be more understanding and open to him these days and I'm much calmer at dealing with things now I'm on HRT.

How to sail through the menopause, yeah right. Run haphazardly through it without killing too many people or alienating yourself from everyone on the planet is a bit more realistic.
It reminded me how far I've come when a newly menopausal patient came into my clinic the other day and spent the entire consultation ranting with a bright red face. I thought this was me two years ago. I'm all zen now thanks to modern drugs :)
-
May the Zen (always) be with you VB, teehee ;D
-
My meno symptoms tend to be treated with humour in our house (which is fine by me). When my mood swings were particularly bad, my youngest son would poke his head around the kitchen door in the morning and ask
'is this a GOOD day or a MAD day, today' ;D
It used to make me laugh and made me realise my mood swings were a shared problem, whether I liked it or not.
-
" Look at me Ma I'm Sailing !" :) ;D
If only it were that simple!
I started to read those comments too but gave up ,I would be so ashamed to show my ignorance that way ! Let's hope they don't have / might have wives that suffer,or mothers, sisters or daughters. :'(
-
I haven't had a chance to read these yet but I think this is the second one - at least we can have them all in one place so we can read at our leisure when we have time !

Thanks for posting the article! It was a real aha moment for me. Especially about the carbs and insulin etc. I have been having real trouble with that for a few weeks now and couldn't work out what it was. It was good to know and understand like lots of things with the menopause.
Thanks again
Sally

Stellajane, I have to say I agree with you. Well said !

especially when doctors are ill informed and trying to lambast you :beat: la la la la "I can't hear you" :whist:

Here is today's article about HRT
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2999890/So-safe-HRT-s-dilemma-millions-drawing-latest-research-Britain-s-experts-guide-pros-cons.html
Some inaccuracies as to be expected!

-
I just wish someone would get it clear that the estradiol in most of the HRT's these days is "BIOIDENTICAL" !!!
They seem to have a new classification of HRT in there somewhere :)
Standard
Body-identical HRT
Bio-identical HRT
Where did they get that, says it all :o
:-*
-
Yes that was one of the inaccuracies I was referring to - this statement:
"Most of the oestrogen prescribed on its own or in combination with progesterone is derived from horse urine"
I mean - how out of date is that!
It's annoying that there now has to be a distinction (in terms of the general public) between "body-identical" and "bio-identical" - because of the compounded creams industry rife mainly in US - because it means that the correct term has been hi-jacked!!

Today's article is about alternatives to HRT. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-4254/Ten-alternatives-HRT.html
-
I don't think I have time to take all the supplements suggested! I must admit to being totally confused about alternatives. We eat very well and cook everything from scratch, surely that's enough if it is a balanced diet??
-
Rosebud57 posted a very comprehensive interesting link yesterday all about the risks and benefits of HRT which (amongst other things) explains the 'difference' between so called Bio-identical and other preparations. Here it is again for those who missed it:
http://www.womens-health-concern.org/help/factsheets/fs_hrtrisksbenefits.html (http://www.womens-health-concern.org/help/factsheets/fs_hrtrisksbenefits.html)

Talk about trying to sell you something you didnt need.
Its a pity they were not so accurate and upto date on the HRT article yesterday (which did not mention specific HRT's unlike this article on alternatives!!)
Amazed at the cost of these, with no proven or safe results.
Just to say again about the problems in yesterdays article.
I just wish someone would get it clear that the estradiol in most of the HRT's these days is "BIOIDENTICAL" !!!
They seem to have a new classification of HRT in there somewhere :)
