Title: Starting HRT patches
Post by: Bella0174 on March 13, 2015, 10:56:41 PM
I am due to have a total hysterectomy and have been prescribed Femseven 75mg HRT patches. I am aware they come in 50mg, 75mg & 100mg doses. Do you think 75mg is too high to start with? Should I ask for the 50mg instead?

I should think it will depend on your age. If you are under 50 then 75mg is probably good.  You could ask for Oestrogel so you can start on a lower dose and then increase the amount you use gradually.  DG x

It sounds as though they are offering you 75mg as you may well need it at your age.  As you will suddenly have a big drop in your own hormones levels after the op this could be a good idea.  They are clearly on the ball about this so I'd follow their advice.  You can always adjust the dose if you feel you need to after a few months.
Good luck.  Do take it easy after the operation - you need to be kind to yourself for a few months.  DG x
