Hi, Does anyone have experience of Tibolone. I've put details below as it appears on this site. It sems to be a different kind of hrt yet doesn't seem to get mentioned as often as the others. I've no idea what androgenic is
Gonadomimetic
LIVIAL* (TIBOLONE) gonadomimetic synthetic preparation with weak estrogenic, progestogenic & androgenic properties
£10.56
Because of its androgenic component, Livial can be particularly helpful for postmenopausal patients with reduced libido. Current evidence suggests that Livial does not increase mammographic breast density, as occurs with other types of HRT and long term use of Livial is thought to be associated with a similar increased risk of breast cancer to that of estrogen alone, which is less than that of estrogen plus progestogen.

I tried Tibolone and found it excellent except I got bad acne. I've always been prone to posts anyway - at 59 I still get outbreaks!!!
I think if you have good skin that is not prone to breaking out in spots, then it's well worth trying. It definitely helped with libido, I slept much better and it dealt with my flushes etc. If I hadn't broken out in horrid spots on my face, back and chest I would have continued with it. DG x

Me too! 60 and never had acne as a teenager, but did in my 40s. 2nd childhood starting according to my daughter! It didn't help with libido, but it was worth a try. I slept better and had less flushes.

Hi
Here is one of quite a few threads re tiboone.
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,25821.msg399359.html#msg399359
Do a search for tibolone or under livial and you should find more threads.

Thanks for this ladies. As with most preparations, what suits one doesn't suit another. I was interested to know what seem to make it so different from the usual hrts -gonadominetic as oppose to the usual oestrogen component.

This is interesting ,I too would like to know more about this . wondering if it has less side affects and does it produce a period or not? All I know about is that it is testostrone.

Tibolone is generally only for post meno women therefore shouldnt cause any sort of bleed.
My gynae consultant put me on it after my ovaries were removed. It was mostly ok but not enough to relieve my sudden meno symptoms. He explained that it is a form of steroid and doesnt actually contain any hormones like typical hrt preparations. Your body breaks it down to produce estogen progest etc.
No one knows how much of each it produces as it can vary from person to person and what you eat or drink can even affect how much the body produces. Like any med it can produce side effects.
After emailing dr currie she confirmed that it is only weak oestrogenic properties.
Hope that helps

Tibolone (Livial) was the very first HRT I tried and I did really well on it. I didn't get any of the acne problems that others seem to have had. The only reason I stopped using it was because I could only get it in a low dose and I now need a medium dose. When/if the day comes when I can go back to a low dose I will definitely go back to it.

Thanks everyone.
It sounds a possibility. I looked up gonadomimetic (spelt it wrong) couldn't understand a word!Looked up gonad and we make it in our ovaries and men in their testes! At least it's an option that is not hormone based.
