Title: Electric toothbrush
Post by: pj44 on February 23, 2015, 03:47:43 PM
Need some advice on electric toothbrush. I use a electric oral B one with the round small heads. after a recent visit to dentist he said the toothbrush head that was more like a toothbrush was better for cleaning the teeth.  things is so far I have brought trizone head and I hate how it vibrates and feels too much on my teeth.  I brought the duel clean heads and I find them too big and gag when I try to do back teeth so at the moment I am swapping I use big or front teeth and small back on for back teeth.  I'm thinking I will treat myself to a new toothbrush but I'm not sure what to get and will I have the same problem.Have others had this problem and solved it.

Trust a dentist to cause such confusion.  My dentist says the opposite and the small round heads are better.
I would stick to what suit you.

I have several - a baby brush for mornings to get behind the teeth …….. a larger one for the rest of the day.  I also have several TiPees I think they are called; brushes on stems that fit between the teeth; and a hook thingy for removing plaque where the brushes can't reach.

I tried an electric many years ago and found it to be TOO MESSY  ;D as well as tickling the gums ……. paste went round my face, under my chin, on the bathroom mirror - you get the picture  ;)

Lol ya I get the picture CLKD perhaps I should just get a good toothbrush.  I have been told to use the tippee things pink as I am a pick kinda girl dentist words not mine, I thought he was being funny till I looked and saw they came in different sizes and colours, I also have to wear a mouth guard at night. Its takes me even longer at night now to get ready, then I have to pop guard on. No wonder I am still single.

You can take your time getting ready for bed rather than rushing to someone else's beck and call then  ;)

I have had to work harder on my teef because I had 3 implants in recent years and don't want to let my Dentist 'down' by destroying his handiwork.  Plus with wonky teef I have a lot of debris to get rid of, I think it's why I stay slim - most of the nourishment is taken out again with the Ti-pee brushes [yellow, green and blue] because I have awkward places to reach.  I spend about an hour at least with the Ti-pees  ::)

I use the round headed one as recommended by my dental hygienist  ::)

Wish they would make up their mind. I don't like an old fashioned one now. I have forgotten how to wield an ordinary one  ;D.
I was also told that an electric one did a far better job as you can't brush too hard. I also like the two minute timer. I used to have a timer in the bathroom for the kids that they set when they started and only got to stop when the timer went off  ;D

Why did you get toothpaste everywhere CLKD. I make far more of a mess with an ordinary one. ::)

I use the small round head as recommended by the dentist, who almost pats my head for cleaning my teeth properly! He's half my age! Perhaps he'll give me a sticker next time! By the way, CLKD, if you make a mess it's because you use too much toothpaste. No more than the size of a pea is necessary.

I HATE toothpaste  :sick02: so there wasn't that much! But with wonky teeth the electric brush didn't have a chance  ::)

Nor does my DH, yet he still manages to mess up the bathroom mirror!  :-\

I think Dancing Girl said her dad was a dentist and she has given good tooth advice . Hopefully she will be along with her thoughts.

This topic reminds me I need to order some replacement brushes.

I love my electric toothbrush. It is Oral B and round. I don't think I would get on with a normal shape one

The timer really does help

I also use the tipee (sp?) brushes for the awkward bits

If you are gagging it will put you off using it, so I would stick with what you are comfortable with

Thanks everyone. Think i will stick to what im doing swapping brush heads. As dentist showed me that the small heads don't reach right down on the back of front teeth. Thats why i have been trying the bigger heads. Have used electric toothbrush for years i feel they do clean better than a Toothbrush.

I have oral b trizone one. Took a wee while to get used to tickling my gums, but now don't even notice it.  Teeth feel fantastic after use.

Well a larger head won't reach behind the teeth  ::) - try a scrapper thingy ……… get a rounded one not a sharp one though.

I use oral B with the small head and my dentist is always pleased with me and says my teeth are lovely and clean.
Couldn't go back to a manual one now.
I have a 2 minute timer on my electric one.

It's the gums that require extra care at 'our' age …….

The teeth are fine, it's the gums that need removing.   ;D

Well they do try to get away on their own - the Dentist calls it 'long in the tooth' where the gums recede  :o
