Title: Hair styles
Post by: honeybun on February 08, 2015, 04:04:22 PM
My hair has got quite long as I had to keep cancelling my regular appointment due to mother being ill.

Time to get the mop tamed this week.

How do you wear your hair. Has it been the same for years. Any ideas for styles for the over 50s as I don't have a clue.

I always had long hair but 5 years ago I took the plunge and got a graduated Bob, (arched up at the back) love it, so much I've kept it since! Was thinking I should grow it for a wedding I've got in summer cause I saw a lovely hair up style. X

I would love to be styled but can't afford it. I have a trim every 5-6 weeks …..I vary which hairdressers I go too.

My hair dresser is mobile, she used to work in a big salon but left years ago and I followed her, don't know what I would do if she gave up, she does my girls hair too, she is young modern and excellent at what she does. It is a lot to pay out but that's my treat, although she is cheaper than a salon x

I have a home hairdresser too. So much easier. It's just trying to decide what to have done.....a trim or something radical.....but what if I don't like it.  ::)

Have a trip to a shop that sells wigs first - I did that years ago to make sure that really short hair suited my face!

I straighten my fringe and it does tend to wave a little ::)

It will suits anyone with small heart shape faces and most of all its easy.

:-\ doesn't show on my screen ……… my hair was almost as long as my waist for years, then I tried on the wigs before having it cut and permed.  My boss didn't recognise me, looked a bit like Crysal Tips  ;D ……… then it's been as long as my shoulders but curls up, coloured, cut short, coloured ……….. natural now and going lightly grey  ;)

I've never suited long hair, so my length is pretty much as it's always been - short-to-medium (certainly never below my shoulders).  I like lots of blended layers, the front brushed back, the back brushed under,  and I have a side-swept fringe.   I also get it coloured now, back to its original mahogany brown.  Oh, and my button earrings must always be visible!

It was on google images and I copied and pasted as I usually do, I can see it on my post.

I googled boyish crop with long full fringe and it came up with loads.

Its so annoying not being able to find the pic again.

I had mine chopped a little shorter on my last visit... It's now at my jaw line... a layered bob which I can tuck behind my ears if I feel like it. It looks a little 1930s.

This time last year I had much longer hair and decided to have a change.  :)

Wish I could do that, Galadriel.  Unfortunately, my ears aren't flat enough, so I keep them hidden....  >:(

I used to wear a bob years ago at various lengths. Nowadays short hair suits me better. Now similar to Judy Murray's style.

It's not what suits me, it's more what my hair is prepared to do! I've had the same hairdresser for many years. I've seen him through divorce, new relationship, lung cancer, recovery and taught his kids. He now cuts my DH's hair (chance to talk football) and used to cut my children's hair. He knows it's pointless in trying to persuade my hair to do what he or I want, just have to let it do it's own thing. Stubborn hair, but at least I have hair! Plus my hair has retained it's colour and when I do eventually go grey, I shall be prepared to do so gracefully.

I'm still growing out my grey silver roots. I think it'll be at least another year before the very faded brown dye is finally gone. When my just below shoulder length hair is tied up (thanks to the use of hair straighteners on my fringe and any other free ends) it looks sleek and sophisticated (old colour is only in the bun/ponytail now) but when loose it resembles an orange and grey wild frizzy nest!  ;D

I wish I could find a hairstyle that me and my hair agree on! My hair usually wins and I end up having to wash it to subdue it!

Tomorrow is the day. I fear the words that will come out of my mouth will be....just a good tidy up and thin it down because it's got a bit thick.

Oh I do wish I was a whole lot braver  ::)

I'm the opposite, HB - mine always needs thickening up, hence the layers!

A number of online sites have styles. Pictures are always helpful when trying to change style.

Do they talk about face shapes, hair thickness and things like that, cubagirl?   These can make or break a hairstyle.  My hair is fine and my face shape is long-ish.  Can't wear long, or one-length, or angular etc.. :-\

Some do Dulciana. Some you have to pay for though & some you can add picture of yourself & "try styles on" like a hat.  I usually take a few variations to hairdresser & let him decide most suitable for my hair etc. Been going to him for years.

I went different and I like it. It's a sort of sharp graduated bob. Short at the back coming to quite a sharp point at my chin with layers at the back and top so I can have a bit of height with it.

Whether I can do it myself remains to be seen  ::). I am off to buy some straighteners this afternoon, oh and some wax and some texturising gel  ;D. This hair cut is proving to be expensive.

Hubby likes it and hopefully my daughter will find something complimentary to say. She told me last night to get rid of the mushroom look   ;D. Nothing like a daughter for the truth.

Glad I did something different though, I really fancied a change.

Funny that, mines is a graduated Bob ( think I already mentioned) and my youngest calls me shroom head! Although I don't see it  :D
Easy kept but never the way the hairdressers do it. You'll feel better for a change.

Really glad too HB a graduated bob is really flattering and suits all women, I graduated from very long hair to shoulder length and then to a graduated bob though mine was wavy, before taking the plunge to a short with a long fringe. I always kept some height on the top though.

Bet you feel really fresh and sassy  :)

If only SL. I grew mine into graduated bob a few years back, so didn't suit it. I used to have a bob years ago & it really did suit me. Hubby loved that hairstyle on me but now I look like mutton & lamb!  ;D

Glad you like the new style HB.

My hair is naturally curly.  I had it fairly long for a long time and decided a few years ago to stop dying it and let it go grey.  Oh my so many people said how old I looked.  I lost a lot of weight in 2012 (intentionally) and once I reached my target weight I chopped it all off and went for a short spikey style and dyed it red with black bits - I feel like a new woman.  Menopause has a lot to answer for  ;D
