Title: estrogel to estradot
Post by: donnacrichton on February 07, 2015, 11:03:07 AM
Hi have been reducing estrogel as symptoms are high estrogen. I was down to 3 pumps and a third of a pump a day. Still showing high. I have had bloods done and been moved to estradot 75. Does anyone know what that is equivalent to in estrogel pumps. Still got headache breast tenderness and jitters. I know to expect it rough when moving x

Really scared last 24 hours are awful. Tender breasts and headache gone so dose was definitely too high. I am having continual flushes one after another and cant stop sobbing. Is this just the drastic drop in estrogen or is this too small?

I was told 3 pumps was equivalent to Estradot 50. Not sure about Estradot 75. Hope that helps.

Maybe it's a slower absorption rate.

Hope you feel better soon.

It all takes time! If your estrogen was too high then it will not drop immediately. I find any change takes a week or two to settle in - persevere. I did find estradot much more stable in terms of doseage so try to be patient and give it time to work ...

Hi donnacrichton

I've never used gel but I've never had any problems with absorption from Estradot and would agree you need to give it time to stabilise.

What were your oestrogen levels that the doc thought were too high?

If you've had your ovaries switched off and are producing no oestrogen then a 50 mcg patch would be far too little (at your age - but can't remember how old you are?) I would have thought - this is what I'm on and I'm 61 and it is definitely not high!

Hi I am 42 not had blood results back yet. It was symptoms that indicated high sire and swollen breasts, constant headache, agitated and constantly aroused. I had ovaries shut down 4 months ago and tried estrogel. Had a few spells that went ok then would go haywire again. Hopefully get results this week. Haven't managed to do much today not like me stall. Got to go to work tomorrow

Today an unbearable headache and fully aroused again. Can it keep fluctuating high feels like I'm on a high dose again? Had been told to cut a 100 part into 2/3 and just read you shouldn't cut them.

I cut mine, no problems. In fact meno consultant said it was OK to cut them.

Really don't worry about cutting them  - the only thing you might find is that they tend to uncurl a bit at the cut edges because they are straight rather than rounded off, but as long as you keep checking you should be fine.

Not sure why you've been told to cut a 100 mcg patch because you can get 75 mcg patches anyway - or are you just gradually working up to the full 100 mcg?

Still showing signs if too high at 50mcg how long before I know my body is at 50mcg. Scared of going too low if it is a delayed reaction x

I honestly can't remember, but know it wasn't overnight. Body takes a while to readjust.

Is it possible I am fluctuating up & down from the 75 mcg then reduced to 50mcg. Was only on 75 mcg for about 10 days?

Hi

Probably a really silly question but how do you get your ovaries shut down?

This sort of explains it

Medical shutdown of the ovaries
Medicines can be used to temporarily stop the ovaries from making estrogen. Two of the most common ovarian shutdown medicines are:

Zoladex (chemical name: goserelin)
Lupron (chemical name: leuprolide)
Zoladex and Lupron are both luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists. These medicines work by telling the brain to stop the ovaries from making estrogen. The medicines are given as injections once a month for several months or every few months. Once you stop taking the medicine, the ovaries begin functioning again. The time it takes for the ovaries to recover can vary from woman to woman.

Deciding to have your ovaries shut down with medicine or surgically removed requires a lot of careful thought and discussion with your doctor.

Had to be taken off estradot as was having migraines not had these before. Back on estrogel started on 3 pumps but doing it in one dose. Seems to be settling well so fingers crossed. Getting ovaries shut down has not been an easy option. Would think very carefully before giving this a try x

I agree Donna - I thought it was a pretty extreme approach by your doctor!

Glad you're feeling better now - try to stick at your dose solidly for a while - adjusting too much will probs cause you problems (it did for me). I still have bad spells but ride them out now cos I know they're only going to last a few days at most!!

I have stuck to same dose even though some days have been hard. I have given in so many times & upped dose. I am determined not to move dose as this has been my biggest problem. I know I am not getting a quick fix.

Hey Donna,

How are you doing now you are back on gel?

I felt great for the first 10 days on evorel 100, a little over stimulated and excited but it was all good, it settled to normal after 3-4 days. I slept amazing, no low moods or anxiety or headaches then on Friday I started to feel a drop, sleeping crappy ish, loads of warm surges and adrenaline surges with more nausea and terrible bloating so it feels like I've gone to low again for the last 3 days?

Does anyone know what's going on????

Xxxxx

I've been up & down. Headaches getting less and aroused feeling gone. I'm getting some flushes and some anxiety. Only been 7 days but my levels were way too high. Some hours nearly feeling normal. Determined not to change dose until next consultant appointment at the end of the month
Have you had any improvement at all?
