Title: Utrogestan days 1-25
Post by: jedigirl on February 05, 2015, 07:38:09 PM
 Hi all,
Have recently started taking Utrogestan days 1-25 with Estragel 2 pumps. Is anyone else on this regime? I've so far managed to avoid the usual horrible dip i have when stopping the progesterone stage and feeling quite well but am worried what will happen if i don't bleed when i take the break on day 26? Is it safe not to have a bleed? My GP was happy for me to try this but I didn't ask about that part. I was having very light periods before this. Also is there any extra risk re breast cancer taking the two together for 25 days rather than 14?. Is this a ridiculous question? I seem to be able to make a worry out of anything these days.  :(

Seems we are never happy Jedigirl lol
I don't know much about it, as you know I'm going to GP for oestragel and Utrogestan but it'll be 14 days prog. I would think there would be much harm as your taking 100mg a day instead of 200mg and when you think of coil its releasing small amounts every day and lots of women don't get periods. Probably not much help but I'm sure someone will be along x

Jedigirl, really interested in your questions as I'm interested in knowing the same thing. I presume the break will be so short - and only half the normal amount of Utrogestan - that we wouldn't have the usual dip? I can't decide whether to go for this, or Qlaira. Changing my mind on an almost daily basis ! Millykin, hope you finally get to see your GP tomorrow! Xxx

It doesn't matter if you have a bleed or not in the break - you shouldn't do - I don't have a break - just carry on all month. As far as I know there are no increased risks from taking progesterone every day (so long as it's a bio-identical one as utrogestan is!) glad you're feeling well on it!

Hi jedigirl

As Suzyq says it doesn't matter whether or not you bleed but if you are peri-menopausal then you are quite likely to - but your bleeds should not be as heavy as if you were taking utrogestan on a shorter cycle. The longer course of progesterone will help prevent the lining thickening.

In your position (peri-menopause) it is important to have the break because it enables any lining that has built up to be shed on a regular basis rather than growing too thick and "sloughing off" irregularly.

You may still experience some normal pms symptoms for a day or two after you stop taking it, but as the progesterone dose is not high any withdrawal effect should be minimal.

Jedigirl my GP was off sick again so it was a young stand in, he didn't have a clue! Looking through his little book and taking ages so I just said can you just give me a prescription for Femoston 2/10 (I'm usually 1/10) and I'll make another appointment when My GP is back, so he said thank you and sorry he dosent know much on that gave me my prescription for 3 months. I did feel sorry for him but if I had sat there any longer I may have explode. so now I'll just have to wait!

Oh dear Millykin - just when you'd psyched yourself up for asking for what you wanted or at least discussing the options! At least the doc had the grace to admit he didn't know much about it - I hope he made a mental note that he needed to do some homework!

Hope you feel better at least in the short term.

She was supposed to be back today, so not sure. Femoston 2/10 was my other option so I'll give it the 3 months and take it from there. Chemist have to order it in. I'm just not sure when I start higher dose, I'm one week into pack 1/10 oestrogen stage Do I finish whole pack or start higher dose leaving out the first week.
Glad your minds at rest Jedigirl now you can get on with it without worrying if you bleed or not x

Hi Millykin

Yes just start at the point in the cycle that you are when you get the 2/10 but it would be further into the packet, so as you say if you've done a week, then start a week into the new packet so that you start the combi tabs at the same point in the cycle - both 1/10 and 2/10 have the same dose of progesterone so you are fine on that score.

I'm still in peri menopause as far as I know! Had some spotting in first month of progesterone but nothing since then.
