Hi everyone,
Anyone suffering from excess gas and burping, aches and pains all over the upper torso, a bit of bloating and sore throat? Also feeling my heart pound in my chest and yet it doesn't race like most people say theirs does, if anything it's quite slow.
Feeling nervous and trying not to self diagnose the nasties but it's hard not to.
Thanks

Nope. I find that taking my medication too close to bed time gives me heart burn so have had to review when/what I eat through the day. Have you any rennies??? like relief? Sore throat can be the body fighting one of the Germs doing the rounds - be kind to yourself, warm bath, soothing music …..

Yip had excess gas in upper body moving around, feels horrible but no sore throat. I can feel my heart pounding through my body but most of the time palpitations and going rapid. I can't seem to burp though wish I could

Could it be IBS?
Iv had 2 bouts of it since going through this god awful menopause. It's a sore thing and can give you sore muscular pain.
Hope you feel better soon xx
-
Yes, definitely. Burping and nausea, usually before period and around ovulation. Now on month three of HRT and it's definitely improving. Doc says it's one of the lesser known symptoms of peri menopause and is often linked more to extreme fluctuations in hormones rather than low estrogen alone. Who'd be a woman, huh? X

Yip me too ;D....I can burp like a sailor and seem to curse like one right now.....periods just finished lol.....I also feel gas moving around in my upper chest, but I can relieve some by massaging that area.....horrible and just one of man y symptoms....perimenopause is horrendous.....hope you're all having a good morning :) x

I found all the xmas food really messed up my digestive system. Had loose bowels and wind/burping for a couple of weeks. Touchwood now settling down.
Could be stress in your case as swallowing air can be a problem when you are anxious.
As for wind in your upper body, it's probably from your stomach, but just seems like it's higher.
Sore throat could be a virus, which is making you feel ill (aches and pains) and stressed therefore the wind and burping.
-
Sore throat can be caused if one has a hiatus hernia when there is reflux, continual acid returning up the stomach can be painful. I think a chat with your GP is important!
-
Haven't suffered with trapped gas/wind but my bowels are definitely much looser. Since I have been in peri I wake up every morning 'needing' to go.
Though I did spend 7 months last year taking Amitriptyline which made me quite constipated and bloated (and I gained 12lbs in weight) so not sure if my body is still regulating itself after that? but I stopped taking it 4 months ago so I would assume this is normal for me now.
But I regularly get anxiety prickles (my nick name for them) which run down the back of each leg and seemed to precipitate my bowels being loose.
I hate this. Can't help but wish my life away to when I'm post menopause and all this seems like a bad dream.
-
I remember having to dash for a poo 10 mins. before a bleed began which meant keeping a close eye on my calendar as I was unable to travel anywhere ! so hormones have an influence on bowels :P
-
Yes, they must do CLKD.
Also I watched that diet program on BBC2 last night, and the experts were saying that hormones have a real influence on our appetite, too.
Since I stopped taking ADs last August I have noticed that my appetite has never really come back. I just don't seem to really fancy many foods anymore, and I have definitely stopped craving sugar/chocolate as I used to.
I have lost 14lbs in weight which is good. But I sort of miss feeling hungry and enjoying a delicious meal.

Different hormones! this is insulin related regarding our eating habits as well as 1 which is supposed to tell the brain when the gut is full ………. like some cats, people can have problems with that which makes them eat lots and lots ::)
-
Thanks everyone. Saw gp and now trying a burping medicine and gaviscon for a few weeks. Seem to be getting lots of sharp upper body pains but not sure if it's gas or pulled muscles. Periods coming and going but not had one for a few months so think am in the thick of perimeno at mo. This is pants! Officially hate menopause! >:(
-
So do lots of us here ::) so sharing does help! Do you have to take the medication at certain times to ease gut symptoms? Sitting up after eating can help, not eating too late at night and eating little and often to avoid wind. Where are the sharp pains?
-
I was going to ask about sharp pains too, where are they?
I get sharp uncomfortable pain under left breast between middle and left

It sounds a bit obvious, but I was amazed what a difference a hot water bottle made when things were bad. Didn't stop the burps, but eased the rib/shoulder/bra area pain. X
-
Hi all
CLKD, my sharp pains seem to be anywhere in my upper body. They change places often. Sometimes under my ribs and collar bone, sometimes in my shoulders and back and neck. They seem to be worse when I'm extra gassy I think but the burping doesn't seem to ease them, they just go eventually and then a new pain starts up somewhere else. The tabs I'm on (I forget the name now and they're at home) are to be taken in the morning each day before food.
If this medicine doesn't help I think I'll see if i can get an endoscopy to see what's going on and to hopefully ease my mind also. As you'll all probably know already, I've found that if you look up these symptoms you get all sorts of horrible scary things come up and then i get into a right panic. :-\
Sparkle, thanks so much for your reply. It sounds awful for you and I really wish you weren't suffering so much but it also calmed me down a bit to know that it seems many of us are suffering these things and that everything I'm feeling might just be menopause after all and not some awful illness. I too have the throat clearing thing everyday and a sore tummy after eating at times. I really hope you get to the bottom of yours and find some relief soon. I'm new to this whole menopause thing and doing it a bit early (I'm 36) so I think really that if I can just be reassured that what I'm feeling is defo peri or meno related then I might calm down and learn to cope with the symptoms a bit better. At the moment though I'm worrying there's something more serious going on. :(
This is not an easy time. Who'd have known fluctuating hormones could cause such trouble!
-
I had similar and turned out I had gallstones - just thought I'd mention in case you haven't had that checked out!
-
Don't mean to drag this out but can I just ask if these are the symptoms you all get please as mine feel a bit weird at times and trying to make sure I'm not confusing it with anything else. My 'heartburn' pain seems to feel more like a bruised achy area where I imagine the food pipe to be rather than a burn. (The shooting pains all over Im pretty sure are trapped wind/ gas pains.) It always seems worse towards the end of the day and if I slouch or lie down. Then the weird one... I feel as if something is where my bra would be at the front and a bit lower (stomach area i guess) if I was still wearing it if that makes sense. Not pain exactly, but a bit of pressure and tightness. It's pretty uncomfortable and I'm trying to work out whether that's a bloating sensation or something else. If anyone happens to know what I'm going on about and could let me know, that would be great. Sorry to sound like a nervy hypochondriac again.
Thanks
-
Everything you just described in last post is exactly what I feel especially wear bra would be under left breast. I've noticed this since starting HRT, bloated, trapped moving wind at night uncomfortable. I take oemprozole works sometimes but not often now, I'm going to mention at next check.

Yes, I too recognise what you're describing. In fact, and I hate admitting this as I find it quite embarrassing, I have not been able to wear a proper bra since summer 2012. I have had so many MRI s and GI work, only to conclude it's a neurological pain caused by hormones and the related water retention touching nearby nerves. This often happens where nerves 'meet' like under the arm and in the ankle, causing referred pain and or tingling in the shoulder/back/arm/chest/foot. There is also a condition called costochondrosis which can be affected by low estrogen too apparently (another member told me this). I am convinced that my burping is linked to the nerve in the oesophagus, though that's just my little theory! Isn't it interesting that a lot of us who have these symptoms also have the nausea?
The most frustrating thing of all is that so much worry and money could be saved if only the medical profession was better informed. So many doctors think if you have anything other than anxiety and hot flushes, it's not hormones. Even on here, I have seen people say to another member 'that doesn't sound like hormones to me' only for another member to say 'yes, it is hormonal!'. Every time someone questions it (and I do understand that things need to be checked out) a little voice whispers to me '.... so maybe it is something else, something terrible/fatal blah blah blah' and so begins the horrible anxiety! Once that kicks in, all the reassuring tests I've had mean zilch!! Does anyone else feel like this, or am I just nuts?

Reassuring words, Sparkle, thank you ::) xx
-
Ditto! I spend most days thinking I'm properly ill because of all the symptoms sounding like something else more serious. Going to try and keep calm and tell my gp anything new. Been on Lansoprazole for a week now and still burpy and bloated so if not making a difference soon, I'll go back and see about an endoscopy. I won't be surprised it there's something there hiatus hernia-wise or similar. This tight full feeling is very uncomfortable and is ruining my love of eating haha.
Thanks for the replies. They do help so much. :)

This all sounds very familiar. I really thought I would be diagnosed with something serious but have had to accept all hormonal/anxiety & not sure where one starts & the other ends. The gastrointestinal problems have been the worst symptom for me. Things are more settled now, I had every stomach/nausea med prescribed but gave them all up as I felt they where making me worse. I am left with 'pooey' days now that are most definitely related to my periods. That full feeling & thing in the throat feeling is horrible isn't it. I don't fight it anymore but accept it & think that stops it sooner. Now try & get a GP to agree with all this, not a chance! B xx
