Title: personal itching
Post by: Midnight Shadow on December 26, 2014, 06:48:43 PM
Along side my vaginal atrophy, I seem to have developed puritus ani (anal itching) Am aware that it is worse at night. Is this a menopausal symptom?
Atrophy now seems better from regular use of vagifem. Am trying my Timodine cream, so hope this works. Like other sufferers it seems to one thing after another. Just wondered if anyone else suffered this condition. Replies appreciated.

As it's worse at night Midnight - have you checked for thread worms? Not a nice thought but these cause dreadful itching and it's always worse at night as they come out and lay their eggs  :-X. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Threadworms/Pages/Introduction.aspx

Yep.  If it's not worms ……. which I have never had.  I find that putting talc in the gap after my evening bath eases any itching as does Vaseline/Savlon during the day.  The itchiness for me is caused by dryness.

Thanks for replies. Pretty certain it is not worms. Continued using timodine cream today and it has been some what easier.  Will continue using it for a few days as I do have a habit of using creams for two days thinking complaint has cleared. Thanks again.

Remembering to use it before symptoms return is important.  Making it a daily habit, i.e. after opening your bowels ………. as part of your cleansing routine  ;)
