Good morning ladies, could anyone help me please ?
I'm 43 and we'll into peri. Regular ish periods but they have gone from 4/5 days to about 2 days of bleeding.
My last period finished on Saturday but then on Sunday I started some brown spotting. Only when I wipe (sorry tmi) and no pain etc. it's still there today and I'm just wondering is this normal??
Many thanks for reading xx
-
It was for me. Nuisance value only.
-
Thank you CLKD,
It's reassuring to know I'm not alone
-
I had this towards the end of each period for several years, never thought it was anything other than 'normal' ...... we didn't talk about periods in those days ......... ::)
-
It's the first time it's happened to me. These changes can be quite frightening for sure. I've got no one to ask which is why I find this site a godsend :thankyou:
-
Same for me had this for years up until my periods stopped 3 years ago. The brown stuff could drag on for weeks in dribs and drabs and then I'd have another period and it would all start again!

Hi website and thank you so much for replying. I just found it a bit odd that the brown spotting started a day after my period stopped if that makes sense ? It's tailing off a bit today thank goodness. Blimmin hormones >:(
-
Yep - HORMONES >:( ::)
-
Well that is me exactly so you are not alone. I think I am coming to the end of peri as my periods are so much lighter then they were, but they are brown more than red and as you say Westie dribs and drabs that go on for days. I am so glad we have this forum to talk to each other about these things- :) so thank you Claireylou for posting this.
-
So I'm not the only one then. Although, wouldn't wish the uncertainty on anyone.
Thank you ladies xx

The same has happened to me today. My period was a couple of days shorter than normal and then today I have had a brownish discharge when I wipe. Had a stonking headache as well :(
-
Interesting that you said about headache toffeecushion, that's another thing I've had since Sunday :(
-
I've been getting some nasty headaches. They have been lasting a couple of days at a time. What other symptoms have you had.
-
Night sweats one week before and a few days after each period. Warm moments during the day. Itchy skin but only at night in bed. Anxiety through the roof. Feeling a bit dry and sore down below. Awful brain fog. Dry skin and hair with some shedding. Probably loads more but brain fog won't let me remember ::)
This brown spotting though has freaked me out more than anything :-\
-
Don't think i have had night sweats but do sleep with the windows wide open. I've had hot flashes during the day. My anxiety is really bad and I sometimes get palpitations. I'm also getting very forgetful, burnt the dinner today because I forgot it was on. I am hating the headaches and anxiety the most, oh and the palpitation when they happen.
My gp doesn't think it is all related to the menopause though and that is really frustrating.
-
Ditch the GP? ::)
-
Oh I bet that's frustrating for you. I've only learnt that my little list of symptoms are peri just from joining this site. When I'm ready to go on hrt I shall go armed with information from here.
I honestly thought that I was going mad at one point. Every new symptom is some awful disease.
It's good to share these things on here

I think the real problem for ladies is that the most likely cause of irregular bleeding is perimenopause especially if you have all the other symptoms. The trouble is there is always going to be someone who has a serious issue that happens to coincide with the time of peri, and if you google you will come across them for sure. Best not to do that but to keep calm, and make notes so that you can take them to the GP if they don't make sense to you over time.
You can't ignore bleeding that is irregular, but you can chart it and monitor it and be prepared to act if you are not happy or are worried, always remembering that it is part of the changes we see as long as it remains within limits. That is the way I see it anyway.

Yes I've had this too, after period and sometimes before andeven both! And I'm on HRT ! I'm I peri still I think 4 yrs in and am 48 but my mum stopped her periods at 50 I hope I follow, but somehow I don't think I will as she only had a few flushes, and I've had just about every meno symptom going!
-
I used to have this years ago. Never knew when a period was really finished as I seemed to be continually spotting. A real pain it was. But I got pain too, so not quite the same.
-
Thanks cubagirl. I don't have any tummy pain although I don't feel right in myself. Almost like I feel before a period xx
-
Is it still carrying on Claireylou? I wonder do you start a period straight away- in other words does it start red or have you got the gradual yellow/brown staining first? I only ask as my periods are so much lighter now, and they take an age to start with many days of yellow brown staining before actual red. This seems to go hand in hand with the ages to tail off thing as well.
At the start of peri I was the other way- heavy for a few days and periods started this way too, now it is so gradual to start and end like it is running out of steam. Still have PMT though and it doesn't fade quickly like it used to either so bleeding isn't a relief much.
-
Hi Machair,
My periods these days take ages to get going. Up to a week of brown spotting, then light flow of bright red for two days. Then it'll stop for a day, then start bright red for a day. And now this month I've got the brown spotting after, which has thankfully stopped now.
Before peri I had five or six days of dark red bleeding starting from day one. Oh and my pmt this month has been through the roof too.
I never know what's coming next :-\
-
Well this is me exactly and the PMT is also off the scale as well. We are both in the same boat- is it normal?- only a Gynae can answer that for sure, but there are several of us with the same symptoms so it does seem to be a situation often seen in perimenopause. Are you still having the discharge?- mine can last a very long time, and some days I think it has stopped but it then returns the next day. It is very light and sometimes dark yellow rather then even brown. Have you got that?
-
Hi Machair, yeah I usually get the dark yellow after a period but this time it's muddy brown (sorry tmi) ??
It seems to have stopped today thank goodness. I'm hoping it's gone away til next month.
I will say that this period was a bit heavier than normal with bad pmt. when my periods are very light in flow and length the pmt doesn't seem so bad
-
Nothing is TMI here ;)

Thanks CLKD, it's the only place that I can talk freely like this so I'm not used to it
