Hi,
read something on internet suggesting that hrt and grapefruit dont mix?
I'm on evorel sequi patch,
ate grapefruit this morning and was such a refreshing change from the usual cereal.. was looking forward to eating some more!!
perhaps this info is untrue.. hopefully!!
I read that the grapefruit absorbs the eostrogeon?? anyone else hear this??

I haven't heard of this owenla - interesting. I know that you are not allowed any grapefruit products if you are on statins or blood pressure medication but not HRT. I have found this but HRT is not mentioned http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9702908/Grapefruits-can-trigger-overdoses-in-dozens-of-medicines-researchers-warn.html Where did you read it?

Its the estrogen not HRT
http://www.livestrong.com/article/108077-estrogen-grapefruit/
-
still unclear on this
seems it produces more higher oestrogen levels naturally, then this is good..
-
If you use estrogen though isn't it still called hormone replacement therapy?
"Effects
Grapefruit may cause a woman who takes birth control pills or utilizes hormone replacement therapy to higher than desired levels of estrogen in her bloodstream, according to Graedons' Guide to Grapefruit Interactions. The higher estrogen levels can lead to side effects including breast tenderness and nausea. Long-term exposure to high estrogen levels is associated with an increased breast cancer risk"
Wonder how many you have to eat?

I have grapefruit 3 or 4 mornings a week and have done for years. I have been on HRT for 3 years. Never noticed any difference.
-
Loathe grapefruit - now I have an excuse not to eat it.....
-
Grapefruit can interact badly tin some ADs and should to be (nor should pineapple) be drunk on an empty stomach.
-
I read a womans story on hrt who had some bad side effects I closed the page, searched story again but cant seem to find it!! typical!!
I found this though showing some nasty interactions with just 1 grapefruit!!
http://www.nps.org.au/publications/consumer/medicinewise-living/2012/mixing-grapefruit-with-medicines
Anyway as I am on a pretty low dose hrt patch I think most likely safe enough!! and I enjoyed this fruit so much, having not had one in so many years, I found it delicious!!
I have the feeling as much as my dr has suggested lowering my hrt in the past, however I feel just the opposite therefore if grapefruit really does have this effect could be a good thing for me..
one site claims it can even act as a natural hrt like soya..

I guess that patch HRT is not affected in this way then as the hormones bypass the liver and go straight into the bloodstream?
"It has been known for some time that certain chemicals in grapefruit (known as furanocoumarins) can interfere with the way your body metabolises or processes many medicines in the intestine (gut) or liver before they reach your bloodstream. When this happens, more of a medicine may get into your body, making it work too strongly or causing unwanted side effects."

hehe Taz and Stellajane,
so weird that my delicious grapefruit turns out to be so dangerous!! insane.. tempted to draw some scary faces on them, I must stop googling what I eat now!!
-
When I fancy them; or if I am very thirsty; I LOVE grapefruit straight from the skin with a little brown sugar and powdered ginger sprinkled over ……….
-
Grapefruit cut in half sprinkled with sugar and grilled is delicious. Add just a little butter when grilling and it is very creamy.
Makes a great starter.

Cut your segments before you grill it. It gets very hot but is so juicy. The ruby grapefruits are great done like that too.
Enjoy.

When my mother in law was alive she wasn't allowed to have grapefruit drink with her heart pills.
