Title: bleeding after emergency contraception
Post by: lovesflorida on August 15, 2014, 07:02:35 PM
Hi ladies!

Havent been on here for a while but would appreciate some advice pls!
Have had another long gap between periods (8 months this time) and thought that was it but had to take morning after pill last thursday and started bleeding yesterday with occasional mild stomach cramps.Does anyone think its a side effect of the tablet or just a coincidence and dreaded periods have returned. Not a happy bunny about it !!

Thanks ladiesx

Is that not what's supposed to happen with this kind of pill.

Can only think it's the pill that's triggered the bleed. I really don't know much about it to be honest but i would have thought it's you having a bit of a clear out if you see what you mean.

At least your not pregnant though.

I don't know much / anything about the MAP.
Probably this is what's meant to happen?
You've just given your body quite a dose of hormones.
Like Honeyb says - at least you aren't pregnant.......

I used it a couple of times and it triggered a bleed. It changes ovulation they think although nobody really knows how it works! http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/contraception-guide/pages/emergency-contraception.aspx#How

The information wont be any different for women going through menopause I would think. It doesn't matter whether you are 18 or 50 the hormone in the pill will still work the same within the body.
