Title: Patch help advice please xx
Post by: Butterfly22 on July 09, 2014, 08:29:34 PM
I feel such a pest posting on here as have asked so much in the past but im now taking a different road.
I was on the gel for four months but have ME and felt so ill, i no it should not but the alcohol in the gel was bringing my ME on badly. I no my body and have decided to go down the patch route.
Now im on Femseven 75 and popped it on like it said held for 30 seconds and already its peeling off its only been a few hours.
What dose everyone do when this happens?
Also the chemist have put on the pack twice a week but inside on instructions said once a week?
Also i read a few threads and often said only two types of patches but on the HRT prep there are more (Elleste Solo MX  estradiol Estraderm MX Estradot) this is really confusing me?
also if a patch peels and just wont stick if popping another on will that not be getting a big hit of the hormones ?
Sorry if i sound stupid i just feel like im not sure whats what xx TIA

If it is falling off it's safe to put on a new one. Then change it again at your usual time.

I'm on Estradot & change twice weekly.  Just checked netdoctor online, says once a week. Double check by phoning your GP though.

I was given estradot as they stick better.

Be careful not to moisturise the area before sticking though & make sure your hands are clean & dry. Sorry if that sounds like teaching you to suck eggs, but any oiliness on skin will stop them sticking.

Thank you so much, I'm wishing I'd ask for the estrodot now, how long have you been on them? How do you find them? Do you use the utrogesten with them? Sorry for all the questions xx

Lila - Check and see what your GP says, but if the chemist have labelled the pack as twice a week that would seem reasonable. However Cubagirl has also looked and it says once a week. Check with your GP, rang and ask / insist to speak to him / her to clarify.

When you say the patch is coming off in the corner, is it just lifting at the edges or is it actually lifiting off. I find it really helps not to use any moisturising shower gels as they  make it more difficult for patches to stick.

You say that you have seen that there are only two types of patches, but you have seen more. I think there are only two of the conti type patches but there are more of other types of patches, but they are not conti - combined oestrogen and preogesterone.

Really would be good to speak to your GP or get a referral to a meno clinic.

The chemist might have labelled the pack as twice a week because that's how often other types of patches are changed. I am on Evorel conti and that's the timescale on which they are changed, I was on Evorel 50 briefly, same timescales there. The good thing about Evorel patches is that they stick really well.

Good luck.

I tried them a couple of years ago but didn't feel well on them! I think I'll give it the weekend see if these stick at all if not asking for estrodot which I'm assuming is one I take with separate progestrogen xx

I've been on patches for just over 2 years now. Started on 50, then 37.5, then 25, now half a 25. Had no problems apart from sore breasts to start with, but that was due to increased dose. No irritation or anything.

Just to confirm Estradot stick really well and are very small. There would be no problem changing Femseven more often but you would just be wasting some of the hormone still on there.

You should not feel any different whichever oestrogen only patch you use - they all contain estradiol at a given dose. The difference you feel may be to do with the initial release rate as the patches are different sizes but any initial differences should settle. If a patch is eg Femseven 50 or Evorel 50 or Estradot 50 - they are all designed to release an average of 50 mcg estradiol in 24 hours. They may vary slightly in how long it takes to acheieve this rate - some may release slower to starts with, some faster. I imagine this could account for any differences.

Thank you so much I called the doctor and am calling back Monday to see if she can give me the estradot as not having them not stick is not helping it's stressing me thinking it's coming off xx
