Hubby went to the supermarket tonight so I asked him to pick up some Kalms as I have read about them on here a good bit. My mother in law has said they have never helped her to sleep but as we are all different I thought it wouldn't hurt to give them a go.
I didn't realise that there were different sorts until I read the packet of the ones he got me. I've got the Kalms tablets where you take 2, 3 times a day. I'm guessing these probably aren't going to help with me getting a better nights sleep and I'm not anxious, so certainly don't need them for that. I'm thinking that tomorrow I will go to the chemist and get the night ones, but just thought I would get feedback on these as I have them.

I think what you are looking for is actually Nytol. There is a Herbal Nytol - the herbs will just help you to relax so can help you sleep better. The other Nytol has antihistamine in it which will make you sleepy so is more effective and will be available from the chemist counter.
I take the antihistamine type Nytol a couple of times a week to give me a better nights sleep when I get very tired. DG x

There is Kalms night as well. I actually found Boots own make of herbal night ones the best of all. I'm restricted to herbal ones as the others have lactose in them, which I can't take.

I have taken a couple of these at bedtimes before. Personally, I don't think you should be taking them all the time, because they have valerian in - my old herb book says it becomes ineffective if taken regularly and should only be taken for short periods.
I don't know if they work, but I have had no ill effects, and they feel like they work :)
Off to try them again - I had forgotten that I had them, so thanks for the tip!

You're right, only work for a few days at a time. But if it helps break a poor sleeping habit, it's fine.

I have taken Nytol periodically when my sleeping has been particularly bad. I usually wake with a headache which passes fairly quickly but they definitely work. I also have Atarax from the doctor. I read about this on the interstitial cystitis forum. It's a antihistamine but it helps calm the bladder enough so that those of us with constant urination can get a better night sleep without waking 3 - 4 times a night to go to the loo. I do not take them often as they tend to knock me out but if I have really had a terrible time, I am so glad to take one and I know I will feel rested the following day. Far better to go with Nytol or Kalms first though!
