Title: Name decisions - in Iceland
Post by: CLKD on July 01, 2014, 07:47:09 PM
Apparently - in Iceland parents have to choose from a list of Official Names  :o ………. there was an article in a Sat. paper about a family who can't get Passports because their children have English names, I think the Dad is English married to an Icelandic.  However; they knew the Law when they named their children  :-\ - they got an emergency Passport from London ……… whereas many people have had to wait  :-X

Thank goodness mine not due for couple of years. Maybe should start applying now.  ;)
Seriously though, I'll make sure I start applying in plenty of time.

I found this article from last year about different rules re naming children http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21229475

They don't seem to mention France Suzi but I only skimmed through it. :-)

Friends in Oslo had to get permission to use non Norwegian names for their 2 kids. (They got it). The idea is to prevent bullying at school of "foreigners" or black kids as multiculturalism is quite new to anyone over 50.
Think Iceland is pretty closed still. Read a good crime thriller a while ago about the murder of a young immigrant boy - Icelandic crime writer but can't remember his name.
I disagree in principle but was on the bus recently with 2 very scantily dressed young texters shouting at each other "Oi, Chastity it's our stop" and the reply was to a Chardonnay....hmm

Apparently the Icelanders don't want non-Icelandic words incase the language dies out ……… hence the requirement for a set list  :-\
