Morning everybody. I have recently been diagnosed as peri menopausal. This all came after being admitted to hospital with a severe panic attack. I have never felt so horrendous in all my life! I am suffering hot sweats, itching, muscle spasm and severe panic attacks. I am also go through stages of thinking I have something seriuosly wrong with me, such as brain tumour or DVT - I am going mad!
Any advice on how to deal with the anxiety would be greatly appreciated - I was prescribed Lustral, however stopped taking them due to horrific side effects.
I just want to feel the way I did a month ago and not the way I am feeling now :'(

Hi, I am exactly the same plus I have serious vaginal issues. The anxiety attacks are truly awful I am just starting mindfulness look it up, the health anxiety seems to come with the package I just won't to be me again, I also run my own business and it is just me I am just keeping going.
Some ladies will recommend you go on different pills, but I am so sensitive to anything other than paracetamol so I am doing the mindfulness instead. What's scarey is it can go on for years. :'(
Hope we all feel better soon.xx

Thank you for your reply. It is reassuring to know that others out there are going through the same horrible symptons as myself. I feel as if life has just stopped! My poor husband thinks I have lost the plot!
Big hugs

I too suffer badly with anxiety - I think it's part and parcel of the whole thing, unfortunately, as is worrying that something serious is wrong. I've just gone through six weeks of hell doing this!
I recommend asking your GP to change your medication. There are lots of anti-anxiety meds and different strengths so, like HRT, it's just a matter of finding one that works for you. Bear in mind, though, that they all make the anxiety worse before they make it better - I've no idea why this happens and it seems like a cruel irony!

I am sorry to hear that you are suffering with the anxiety as well. I can cope with the hot flushes etc, its the panic, anxiety and palpatations that are crippling me.

This was exactly the same for me. I had bp spiking and severe panic and anxiety! Did cbt and hypnosis which both helped - panic was more easy to stop but constant anxiety was more difficult! I have lorazepam for really bad days but can be addictive and I only take every 4 weeks or so! I too tried ad's but they didn't work for me!
I am now on hrt (estradot and continuous progesterone) and this is working just fine for me! I found that I was still getting anxiety and feeling blah with just estrogen but after my specialist added daily progesterone (and I got over the side effects) I feel pretty level.
It possibly won't ever be the same again, but pretty close. See your gp and start getting some help whether it's anti-depressants, beta blockers or hrt as all of these take time to work! Don't get down - I thought my life was over and now I am in a much better place.

Same here jillellie. Anxiety attacks from nowhere, weird symptoms that had me thinking I was having and heart attack and a stroke!
To help with the anxiety and palpitations, my GP put me on betablockers - they worked really well.
I also see a psychologist for anxiety and an acupuncturist for the rest. As the treatment from the psychologist and the acupuncturist are well under way, I stopped the betablocker and have not had palpitations to the same extent.
As the other ladies have mentioned - go see your GP to see what other options are open to you, conventional and alternative.
I don't think I will be the same again but I'm not sad about it. The old me was a seriously uptight stress-head. I like the more chilled me that seems to be emerging.
You're not alone with this. We are here to help each other get through this part of our lives - I'm so thankful to have found this site. It saved my sanity!

Thank you everybody. I suffer high blood pressure and this is controlled with blood pressure tablets and beta blockers. I have been given diazepam for when it gets a little to much to cope with. I lasted a week on Lustral, however the side effects were making me worse. I can't explain how anxiety gets hold of you and this fear of health problems is horrendous. I think in the last week I have had a brain tumour, DVT and MS!
