Title: Skipped Heartbeat
Post by: Shazzie on May 18, 2014, 10:20:48 AM
Hi everyone.

Hope you are managing to enjoy the sunshine.

I was just wondering.  I started the Everol Conti 50mcgm patches a month ago.  Am feeling really well on them but I still get the skipped heartbeat.  I don't get the pounding heart and hot sweats that I used to get but the skipped heartbeat feeling is still there.  Does anyone else suffer with this even though they are on HRT?

Silly me though once starting HRT all symptoms would go.  Don't think this is right.  :(

Hi Shazzie - I get those too. They are called ectopic beats. Have you had them checked out with the GP? If not then I suggest you do just to rule out anything other than menopause. I had to wear a 24 hour monitor which showed up the beats but nothing else showed up so it's just something I put up with. They are better when I am on HRT but still there a little. There is info on the British Heart Foundation website about ectopic beats http://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/conditions/abnormal-heart-rhythms.aspx

I occasional get them too, had all the test and all came back normal.

Here is another site too that is helpful and informative run by a retired Heart Specialist.

Hi shazzie

I get the fluttering in my heart sometimes for no reason it seems your heart is missing a beat I have low blood pressure anyway but that is not the reason I get them I am on evorel conti 50 too. I don't think it's anything to do,with the patches though but taz is right maybe get it checked out anyway can't be too careful where you heart is concerned

Hi Shazzie,  I suffer from ectopic beats also. I had them off and on before i went onto Evoril Conti and i still get them, sometimes last for weeks and then go as quick as they came.

I have had all the checks done, ecg, 24hr monitor and echocardiogram and nothing else found. So like the other ladies on here i just accept them and try not to focus on them. Oh the joys of the menopause.  ::)

Thanks you lovely lot.

I have had an ECG and blood pressure check but will check it out with doc just in case.  Last time I mentioned it she said as long as you don't get pain then don't worry.  Horrible feeling though.

Thanks again for your replies.

Hi Shazzie

I had ectopics when I was pregnant and was referred to a heart specialist who found nothing wrong. I still get them now and again - usually if I've had a bit too much caffeine, but I have never taken anything for them. My neighbour also had them and in her case she had to drink decaffeinated coffee, otherwise they would return.

Ahhhh.  Thanks Hurdity.

I do drink strong tea so think I will cut down on that.

My sister has just started peri and she gets them too.

Thanks again for your help.

I thought mine were triggered off by coffee so i switched to decaf but it has made no difference, my tea is very very weak so not that.  I just think it is hormone related and we tend to notice them more because of all the changes going on with our bodies.
I am taking beta blockers and that does not stop them. And yes Shazzie it is a horrid feeling and one that is hard to ignore. x

Its not necessarily hormones, internal gas can cause skipped heartbeats

Hi,

Just to add these skipped beats have controlled my life and caused so much anxiety.

Silverlady - I think stomach gas (wind) contributes to mine. When I get tense I produce lots of gas usually embarrassing, so I try to hold it in and at the same time I get the flutters......... that is what causes me the stress and makes me feel Im having a heart attach >:(

it's good to know other people have these symptoms too.

Thanks jgr, silverlady and warwick.

Like you say it really helps to know we are not on our own and palpitations seem to be happening to a lot of us sow e best all stick together on this I reckon.

Whatever is causing it it is still very disabling and like you say w I wait for a pain to start thinking I am going to have a heart attack but I don't get pain with mine,  just thehorrible fluttering and skipped beat.   I think mine is hormones as it started when my periods stopped, although I do suffer from wind a lot) so who knows.

Thanks for your replies.  I feel better knowing I am not alone.

Helps millions Taz.  Thank you s much.

Surprising how common palps are in menopause isn't it?  Wish someone had warned me earlier.  Might have saved me a lot of worry.

Thanks again Taz.

That's ok! Seems to be a meno-thing that nobody, but nobody, ever tells us what to expect. I just thought it would be a few hot flushes, periods would stop and I would carry on exactly as before! Mind you I saw my mum go through it but disregarded it totally. I thought she was just making a fuss!  ;D

Exactly what I thought Taz.  My mum only told me she had the palps thing when I told her I was suffering at the moment.  Wish she had told me sooner.

Maybe she didn't want to put the idea into your head? You know how if someone says "Are you having so and so yet?" it sorts of starts it off?

I wish my mum was here so that I could tell her that I now, finally, understand. My one abiding memory is of her moaning about her lack of waist and the fact that she had put on a stone and nothing looked right and me thinking  "For goodness sake - you're fifty-three - who's going to be looking at you!" Fifty three seemed so old back then!

Seems like we have followed the same road as our mums.

I remember my mum in a lovely cream trouser suit and she had to rush back from the bus stop as she was flooding.  I had terrible flooding too before my periods stopped so the palps were bound to happen if you think about it.

Thanks again for your support.  I really appreciate it.  Funny how knowing someone else has the same makes you feel better.
