Hi, I'm 49 and have recently asked my GP for oestrogen only patches (I have the mirena coil for progestrogen). The GP told me he'd prescribe the lowest dose of oestrogen as I've never tried HRT before. However looking at the prescription they are 50mcg which seems higher than the lowest dose? Do any ladies recommend starting on 50mcg? What are your experiences of femseven? I'm completely new to HRT and feel like I'm dredging through a minefield at the moment! Thanks for any help you can offer xxx

Hi there, I am on Estradot, I started on 37 and swiftly moved up to 50 then 75 which I was on for 3 years . I am now on 100 . There are patches as low as 25 , depends how severe your symptoms are . Its all a bit of trial and error .

You can get 25 but 50 is the usual starting point. You can always cut a bit off the patches until your body gets used to it.
Your other option is gel which is very easy to tweak.

Hi luv2laff
You can lessen the side effects that some women experience from sudden increase in oestrogen by starting low and then gradually increasing until you reach the level you feel is right, that deals with your symptoms and makes you feel well. After you have reached 50 mcg ( if you don't start with this one) then give it a good few weeks for your body to get used to this dose - I would say 3 months probably, and then review whether it is working.
I started on 50 mcg Estradot though (over 7 years ago) and felt fine. As honeybun says - you can always cut them.

I had a mirena coil fitted on Tuesday and the consultant said I need to give it a few weeks to settle then he will give me oestrogen only patches starting at 50cmg. He said if after a few weeks on that I am fine then I need to start cutting a bit off every few weeks until I can get to the lowest dose that keeps the symptoms away.
