Title: Facial hair
Post by: cherylks on May 14, 2014, 12:32:16 PM
I have had a few facial whiskers for years and just keep cutting them.  However, I have now noticed I am also developing a lot of very fine hair all around the jaw line (basically where a man would have a beard!).  Although it is very fine hair it is really thick and becoming too noticeable!!  Does anyone else have this?  Wouldn't dare try shaving cos that would make it so much worse??  Is this just another hormone thing I have to live with?

Yep, I've got that - along with horrible dark bristles on my chin! I pluck the bristles but have to wax the rest. Oh joy...

You wax them !!  :o :o  Isn't that too unbearable for words???

I have them threaded - hurts a bit but lasts!

I have tried everything over the years and treatments have either not worked or cost a fortune or I have reacted to the treatment.

So I now use a small disposable Agilite Venus shaver and apply it very gently over a lathered skin. That keeps it at bay and I have found that the hairs do not grow back any  faster or thicker than in the other methods and for a lot less hassle.

It's not too bad really, my chin's not that sensitive! I'm worried that shaving will result in stubble, which would be even worse. :o

I don't get stubble - but the skin erupts if I wax or sugar them. We are all different.

Me too. Have had this problem since the birth of my first child 31 years ago when in my twenties and I'm now 57 plus I'm fair but still think the hairs are visible.
At first I used depil. creams and suffered a red, sore face on many occasions. About 6 years ago I resorted to shaving with my Ladyshave and it works a treat. I have to do it every morning mind you or I have stubble. Did try waxing last year and it was horrific, ended up very sore.
I think it's a problem that many women have and most of us keep it very quiet. I actually kept it from my husband for all this time until last year when I told him as I didn't want him to walk in on me whilst I was dealing with it. I still don't shave in front of him mind you! :-\

There are some hair removal gadgets, expensive though , has anyone had success with them, think they are laser type things?

I have only had this problem for a few years. I didn't notice at first as my hair is fair. One day, my husband started studying my face intently. I thought he was being romantic, until he tried to pull a rather long stray hair!

Thanks Ju Ju.  That really made me laugh!!  Don't think my husband would dare to comment or attempt what your's did!  Guess light shaving might be the order of the day.  Scared to try in case it makes it worse though  :(

I am having that problem too but being dark haired it really stands out. Every morning I spend ages in front of the mirror with a pair of tweezers and pluck out the dark hairs.  Nobody in my house seems to notice them,

Its my Grandchildren I worry about seeing them.  Young as they are (6 and 7), they notice everything and I would die of shame if we were out and they told people that Nan was growing a moustache.  ::)

May give the shaver a try myself but does it cause a rash ? Have sensitive skin.

There is a little device that you can use. It's a sort of coil thing and it grips and pulls out the hairs. Silver Lady will know what it's called. They are not very expensive at all.

I would never ever consider shaving because once you start you can never stop and end up doing it everyday.
I have a few dark ones on my top lip that I can get with tweezers. If I  get any more then I will try the coil type thing but never a razor.
Our facial skin is not meant to be shaved.

I would be nervous about shaving, does it not get all stubbly?

has anyone tried lasers (although they only work on dark hair - no greys or blonde)

A friends mum used to get electrolysis to deal with her facial hair and its supposed to give permanent results, although it takes several appointments to get rid of it all.

I've got one of those HB. I can do my chin with it but when I tried my upper lip area it was  so painful I cried . :'(

I think it would be worth it though.....maybe. No one has mentioned them to me yet.
My daughter usually says it like she sees it but has not said anything.

It's one part of getting older that I hate.....along with the baggy saggy bits  ;D

DH says he doesn't notice all the dark hairs on my face, between my nose and my ears  :o and I excavate those under my chin (have bumped my thread  ;) )

Its called an "Epicare Wand" its an excellent little device to remove unwanted hair, once you get the hang of it, its remarkably easy to use and very effective. You can get cheaper versions.

Once the skin gets use to it especially above the lip, it no more uncomfortable then tweezing.

I must be a big coward cos even the thought of tweezers brings tears to my eyes.  Keep looking in the mirror and thinking I need to do something!  First, find the tweezers, then place hair in it, then....  nope....  might try when having a more positive day.   :-\

I bought a 7x magnifying mirror as I was finding that I couldn't see to put on my eye make up without my glasses on (kinda difficult  ::) ).

What a shock that was when I saw all the hairs over my lip and on my chin that I hadn't known were there  :o

Keep away from magnifying mirrors at college we used those big round ones that make your pores look like craters, it was horrifying and

guaranteed to give you a king size complex ::) we had to  to examine each other's faces..  :o

I found an inch-long, very fine hair growing out of my chin yesterday when I went to check my lippy  :o

Where did it come from and why haven't I notice it before?!

Zapped it with the tweezers!

I find that if I use a hair removal cream first and then when the skin is soft and the hairs begin to grow a tweezer doesn't hurt  ;) or use a good facial cream on the area before pulling …...

I just pluck the little b###rs. I think I have a high pain threshold so I just go for it.

Anything but a razor  ::)

Has anyone found their eyebrows are growing longer? I've recently had to trim mine with scissors - some of them are about half an inch long!  :o  (And hairy nostrils have become an issue too). I've also been tweezing moustache hairs for years.  All I need now is for the chin hairs to start sprouting and I'll resemble a werewolf!  ;D

Talking of eyebrows- I've noticed some white hairs in mine. Plucked them out pretty quick I can tell you :o

I find I get quite a lot of ingrown hairs when I pluck, how do you cope with them?

The only place I get the occasional ingrown hair is my bikini line which I battery shave. When I spot them I fish them out with tweezers.

Plucking white eyebrows is all well and good - I do it too - but there's going to come a time when there's more white ones than dark ones! And I bet tinting will turn them orange. I'm turning into my Dad!  ;D

My facial skin is less damaged and assaulted by a gentle - and I mean gentle - shaving of the hairs with a ladies razor. I am with choc57 on this one.

Agreed, Honeybun, but nor is facial skin meant to be waxed, sugared, lasered and electrolised. I have tried all these methods over the years having had this problem since the age of 40 after an early menopause and all of them have caused some form of reaction and I have spent  pounds and pounds and discomfort on electrolysis and lazering etc. and salon treatments.

So whatever the beauty therapists etc and the books say, that is the method which works for me, is the most gentle on my skin and costs the least.

It really is a horrible problem of growing old >:(

Age: I had facial hair on the top lip from the age of 12  :'( and very hairy legs …………

As long as it works and you are happy with it then that's great.

I have always had hairy legs as I am very dark skinned. The rest of my family are fair. Think my mother must have had a fling with a gypsy  ;D.

Makes hair control challenging. My daughter takes after her dad and is very blond so hopefull she won't have my problems.

I've just bought a cheap (£1) version of this from a popular online store and it's pretty good. No more uncomfortable than tweezing.
