Title: Oestradiol gel
Post by: Buffy on May 01, 2014, 01:45:08 PM
Anyone else used, or is using this gel? I have just been prescribed it and wondered how long it took to start taking effect. Thanks for any comments.

How has it been prescribed? Do have a progesterone with it?

I absolutely love Oestrogel as you can tweak it. I use 3 pumps in the morning and 1 at night. Its just fantastic. I use bioidentical progesterone Utrageston from days 15-26 with it.

I am just on oestradiol only as have had complete hysterectomy. I use 1 pump a day and have been using it for two weeks now with no effect. Am I being too impatient?

HRT can take 3/4 months to work. 1 pump is an exceptionally low dose after a month I would try increasing it to 2 pumps. You may even need 3 or 4 pumps.

This what is so great about it you can tweak it yourself without messing around with having to get a new prescription.

Another tweak is if you are on 2 or more pumps is to try dividing the dose between morning and evening. I do 3 pumps in the morning and 1 at night.

It really is fantastic.

EDIT: It may take a good 3 or 4 months to get it right as well as notice an improvement.

Hi ellie...I was on the gel for a little over a year after a total hysterectomy and it worked great. I used one pump a day in the morning and that usually was enough for me but if I found I was having more hot flashes etc., i used two pumps a day and as Buffy mentioned its great cause you can tweak the dosage yourself. Fortunately now my hormones have settled and I find I really don't have the hot flashes anymore or other problems so don;t have to use it anymore. (Hystectomy was about 2 years ago never felt better :)
