I read recently in Good housekeeping magazine that drinking 200ml of soya milk a day can help alleviate hot flushes. Am having real trouble at night (not so much during the day) - sweating so much if feel ill. Started on the soya milk a few days ago but no real difference so far (though I do find it very pleasant to drink)
Has anyone else any views on this?

That's interesting, because I've heard that soya products are helpful during the meno. I very often use soy sauce in my cooking, which I feel is helping me, though not exactly sure how.

I had to use soya due to lactose intolerance. Never noticed any difference. But if it works for you, that's good.

The theory is that soya milk contains a type of phytoestrogen (although soy sauce does not apparently).

Hope it works for you and it's good to hear that you like the taste, personally I think soya 'milk' is vile stuff (and I avoid phytoestrogens anyway).

I take sage capsules and they definitley help. I stopped taking them for a few weeks and the hot flushes were much more frequent.

Thanks for your useful replies. Not sure it's working yet as was dripping last night but then only started drinking it 4 /5 days ago.
tiger74 is there a reason why you avoid phytoestrogens?
libby1 Have just had a look at sage tablets as I think this may have been mentioned in the same article (& your post reminded me). do you take a specific branded product (eg A Vogel or such)
There was also a mention of Menoherb black cohash but when I googled that it said not to take it if you had ever had hepatitis/liver issues (which I have so that was out of the question).
As you can all imagine it's driving me mad as not had a good night's sleep for months and month

I avoid all oestrogen and phytoestrogens as I've had oestrogen positive breast cancer. There is some conflicting evidence regarding phytoestrogens being contra-indicated for women who have had oestrogen positive breast cancer but I just err on the side of caution.
I agree with you about night sweats - they're horrible. The only things I've found to help to some extent are having a 'Chillow' next to me in bed to roll onto to cool down and having a separate, wafer thin, single duvet (we sleep in a super-king-sized bed and my husband has a thicker single duvet which suits him) . (Chillows are available from Amazon, Ebay etc.).

Thanks Libby1 and tiger74 - useful info. Will be checking out the Chillow for sure and sage capsules. Will update in a few weeks or so to see how I get on

Soya is also contra indicated if you suffer from hypOthyroidism, as it is a goitregenic.

OOPS sorry - senior moment or after effects of this morning's visit to hospital for mammogram. Ouch!!! Forgot how uncomfortable it is and has left me feeling a little light headed for some reason.
Thanks anyway - all these medical terms are beyond me :)
