Title: Hysterectomy and hot flushes
Post by: lynn walker on April 26, 2014, 10:21:12 AM
My sister had a full hysterectomy over 10 years ago and is still getting hot flushes, can anyone tell me how this is happening as she has no ovaries so therefore not making oestrogen.

Hi lynn - your poor sister.  The fact that she is not making any oestrogen is why she is getting hot flushes. They happen when we don't have enough oestrogen. Was she put onto HRT when she had her ovaries removed?

Was she offered HRT at the time? If so and she has since stopped it then it is quite common for the meno  symptoms to return.

Yes she had HRT after the operation but went to live in Spain for a few years and the docs over there wouldn't prescribe it, shes back in the UK now and is still suffering with hot flushes, shes 57.Ive suggested she goes to the docs and asks for HRT as it will protect her bones aswell.
