Title: 1 amatriptaline made me go crazy.
Post by: Maryjane on February 21, 2014, 06:50:23 PM
Took 1 10mg  amatriptaline last night and oh my goodness me. Took the dogs for a walk at 11.00am and felt strange like the trees in the woods where massive and I felt like I was completely going mad. Got home and lied down on the sofa and went very weak and couldn't stand up, I was also manic with anxiety and dreadful palpitations and kept getting thoughts of wanting to take all the pills. Luckily my husband was at home, all pills have been removed. Hubby took me to the GP who was great, he said he has heard of this before as it used to send some people over the edge in the old days. So not to take anymore. I am going for  accunpucture on Sunday a lady who has a big interest in womens related menopause symptons if nothing else it might relax me. The GP said we believe all your problems and don't feel like you are wasting our time as felt really conscious about going again! it really helps taking hubby with me " as he says it's our menopause for us both to get through together".   Also what is good at the moment I go to bed with my I phone listening to eight hours of relaxing sounds and it does calm me, it will be a miracle if this meno business doesn't have me in a physiatric hospital.   ;D

Ha ha me too, but I'm not giving in  ;) you'd have been better taking your tablet just before getting into bed. 10 mg is a tiny dose, I think they give that dose for sleep or pain relief. I hope u get some help soon x

I took it last night, it's pain relief so he is trying Gabapentin. Even iron pills give me the runs.

Medication can be problematic, I hate side effects  :-\

I think my hubby is quite happy for my meno to be all mine. Maybe I need to send him skinny dipping like your hubby MJ. Might chill him out a bit in more ways than one.

Strange reaction for you to have. Never heard of that before to be honest. If I take a pill that does not suit it generally makes me sick.

My mum is the same with medication . I might even join my hubby at skinny dipping if I can  keep my pants on, as he comes back very chilled each week.

Go for it MJ. I stay in Scotland so forgive me if I think you may be mad  ;D but believe me you would not want to get your kit off up here.

Whatever floats your boat as they say. Apart from a very few weeks in the summer the only way I get in the water is with a wet suit on which kind of defeats the purpose. We have a wild swimming group in our town and believe me before you get in the water you have to be taking mind altering drugs.  ::)
And I don't mean HRT.

Even further north than HB, so absolutely no skinny dipping up here. Does getting in the bath count?  ;)

Seriously though, with regards to Amitryptiline, hubby was given it for nerve pain in his leg. From first night he had terrible nightmares. He stuck with it for couple of weeks, but he couldn't stand it.

I have taken Gabapentin for pain relief - the first effective level is 900mg daily. It affected my memory when i went to even higher levels so had to titrate back down.
There is Nortriptyline which has less side effects than Amitriptyline which you could possibly ask for  -  ichanged to Nor from Ami. because of side effects.

Some meds can cause extreme side-effects, you seem to have a good GP and a supportive husband - stick to them like glue!  Sometimes meds give the opposite effect of what they are designed to do  :o

Yoga?

Yes yoga will be at naturist swimming club next week :D, listening to relaxing "sounds" on the iPhone meditation stuff, we are getting a massage table to so hubby can massage my butt ache from the possible yet to be confirmed PN, I will then return favour. We are turning the spare room into a relaxation room, I will be smoking hashish next ( not really )  :)

There is nothing as strange as medications ,I take 30mg of amitriptyline at night for serious back problems and sciatica and have been fine but was given gabapentin to try a few years ago and ended up in the back of an ambulance and in the heart ward for a month had all sorts of tests including an angiogram(believe me I could have lived without that !)but all tests came back fine so it looked like a bad reaction to the gabapentin,as you can imagine since then I am scared stiff to take an new medication, I can't take hrt for menopause but think I would be bit wary  to try it.may just try your relaxation methods minus the hashish haha  ::)

Hi it just goes to show that we are all individuals and reacts to medications can vary so much. Amtriptyline is good for nerve pain.

Neurology consultant told me the best drug for pain relief is a newer, far better tolerated version of Gabapentin called Pregabalin. He prescribed it but I was too scared to take it, much to the GP's delight, as he didn't want me to have it as it's very expensive.

I had palpitations from 20mg amitryptaline. Refused to take it again. The prescribing doctor accused me of having read the package insert and inventing that I had one of the listed side effects. Charming man  >:(  A friend took 10mg daily for 2 years for nerve pain and had no side effects other than constipation.
