Title: Frank Turner
Post by: ariadne on February 20, 2014, 07:29:57 PM
My 24 year old son likes a variety of different music types - lots of World Music for example , acoustic and so on.

Anyway, tonight he was helping cook tea and got the tablet to show me a recipe on the internet he wanted me to make. As usually happens when he picks up the tablet, he said "Listen to this and see if you like it"

I said " Is that Frank Turner?" (It was Wessex Boy). Well a look of pure astonishment crossed his face, and then I suggested he listen to Photosynthesis. He loved the video, laughing when Franks Mum started jigging about.

So, thank you Taz,  I have impressed my son with my knowledge of Frank Turner!

I then impressed him again by suggesting he listen to a young man I heard on local radio - Billy Locket. I really liked him when I heard him sing on the radio and my son liked him too when he listened to "Pathways" on YouTube

For mothers to mention sex drugs and rock n roll.

That's three of the deadly sins and should never be mentioned. My daughter told me today I had no idea what 19 year old's were like today. I decided not to reply to that one in case I shocked her  ;D.

Good heavens! That is certainly different. Is that Frank singing? Couldn't tell in the clip or from the voice.

If you do listen to Billy Locket - listen to "Your Love Hurts"

Yep that's Frank singing. His roots are in punk. He's got a side project called Mongol Horde which your son has probably heard of. That's really shouty stuff.

Ladies, all this talk about music, sex, drugs, ahhhhhh.  If only the young knew, and we did it often without having our heads in a computer or other gadgets.  The good old days...............

Funny to be reading this. Just downloaded app Guess that Song. I've been going down memory lane. No Frank Turner though.  ;)

Some I don't have a clue though, especially the 2000s era. Truly dreadful. Best score is the 60s, not the 70s which was when I was more aware.

Looking at the rest of the line up I'm not sure it's for me to be honest. A bit too folky. 2000 Trees is a bit heavier. The Ally Pally show last night was supposedly fab.
