West Side Story
Les Miserables
Incredible Journey [when Bodger comes limping over the hill at the end it does for me every time :'(]
South Pacific
anything by Jim Carey
Pirates of the Caribean [ Black Pearl ]
Sound of Music
Phantom of the opera [musical]
Evita!
-
I love Pirates of the Caribbean, all of them, in fact anything with Johnny Depp in does it for me.
The film I really love is an oldie, Thelma and Louise (I can relate to Thelma a lot!)
-
Hey Dreamer I love Thelma & Louise & I also like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill. Tarrentino really is good director.
Hey Leah if you haven't seen Thelma & Louise how do you know it is violent? ??? ???
No seriously I am not into too many violent films & I did love the incredible yourney & I cried at the same bit as Leah. I like most films with Bruce Willis in espicially Die Hard :P :P. I also like Young Guns, It's a wonderful Life & a lot of comedies too - just can't think of my favourite one at the moment. I'm not really into musicals though.
-
I see you like musicals, Leah; so do I!! (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/celb (10).gif)
I would include West Side Story & South Pacific & The Sound Of Music in fact most Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals especially Carousel, My Fair Lady & Oliver! which I saw 8 times in the cinema when it first came out!! ;D
My tastes are very old-fashioned both in music & films......I think it reminds me of an England that sadly no longer exists!! (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/sad (14).gif) (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/sad (6).gif)
The Apartment.....excellent film with Jack Lemmon.
Goodbye Mr Chips.......(the 1939 version with Robert Donat!! ;))
It's a Wonderful Life......I adore Jimmy Stewart!! (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/lnr (13).gif) (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/lnr (13).gif)
Mr Skeffington......little known but lovely film with Bette Davis & Claude Rains
Call Me Madam.......I adore Donald O'Connor as well!! (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/lnr (13).gif) (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/lnr (13).gif)
A Star is Born......not the crappy version with Barbra Streisand ;)
Some Like it Hot.....fantastic!!
Singing In The Rain
Ben-Hur......I watched some of it last week (it is 5 hours long) & sobbed at the end as I always do!! (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/sad (6).gif)
I know Where I'm Going
The Life & Death Of Colonel Blimp
I'm sure I shall think of many more......I realise most of them are fairly obscure & most people won't have heard of them!! (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/conf (9).gif) ;D
-
Brief Encounter - again and again and again (but the ending never changes!)
And any of the old black and white ones ......
Black Narcissus (is that the one with the nuns up the mountain?)
African Queen (in fact anything with Katherine Hepburn or Bette Davis in them)
High Society/Philidelphia Story
Bramble
-
And any of the old black and white ones ......
Fantastic choices, Bramble.......you might like:-
The October Man
This Happy Breed.........both of which starred John Mills (another favourite of mine!! ;))
Mandy
Passport To Pimlico
The Titfield Thunderbolt
Kind Hearts & Coronets
As you can see I'm a mine of useless information!!! ;)(http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/lgh (1).gif) (http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/lgh (14).gif)
-
I only recently ditched a B/W video of Mandy .......... I saw it as a child and cried, when I saw it as an adult it didn't have the impact.
I didn't say that Thelma and Louise is violent ........ it was an add on sentence as my mind was running ahead of me ;)
I love Jimmy Stewart's voice .......... :-*
-
Hubby is a great one for watching films again and again - in fact I think he could play Kevin Costners part in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
I would choose
Shawshank Redemption
Some like it Hot
Little Women (just before ChristmaS)
Wonderful Life ditto
Waterworld (cos I do like Kev)
Flutterby
-
Am not too good at watching films as after the first hour I lose interest and then am forever saying "who's that" and "what are they doing?" much to everyone elses annoyance ::)
However, there is one film I watched (twice) and didn't move for the whole thing (twice) which impressed those who know me greatly. The film is..... Convoy. I just love trucks. Any kind of trucks - my new man bought me a subscription to Trucking Monthly for Christmas..... I think it was Kris Kristofferson but am no good with actors so it might have been someone else but it was the trucks that did it for me :ola:
Love Taz x
-
Hi Taz,
I saw Convoy and you are right. It was Kris Kristofferson.
Phantom of the Opera
Mary Poppins
Sound of music
Gladiator
Pirates of the Caribbean 1,2, &3
Billy Elliot
West Side Story
There are lots more but I can't think of them right now. :)
-
Jesus Christ Superstar - there that is my secret out.
My husband couldn't believe it 2 Xmas's ago when I said I just had to watch it. I had not seen it since it was released decades ago.
I love all the songs in it especially I don't know how to love him & everything's all right & of course the title song.
-
I saw JCSuperstar when it was first released, I came out of the cinema feeling brainwashed. The other that puts the hairs up on my neck is 'Fiddler on the Roof' ........ "Tradition" makes me chilly right through .......
-
Ladies - I love anything by Bette Davis and my all time favourite is All About Eve!
Couple of random ones I love are:-
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (dont ask me why!)
Bridges of Madison County
Man without a face
Braveheart
Imitation of Life (Lana Turner) another oldie!
-
Ooh ElaineR, yes I use to love watching the old b/w movies with Bette Davis in. My mum use to call her names because she always played a bi**h - but how well she played them.
Madison County with Clint Eastwood in, is that the one? I read the book & then watched the film. A great film but then I do like most films in with Clint Eastwood especially if he has a ponco on & a big fat cigar hanging out the corner of his mouth. ;) ;)
-
I know this is worlds apart from most of the choices on here but 'Kevin & Perry go large' just makes me howl with laughter, I think I must have watched it about 4 times ;D ;D ;D ;D
I used to love watching the old black and white films - Girls of St Trinians, Blithe Spirit.....
Others would be the Breakfast Club
Ghost
Rocky Horror Show
I would love to watch the 'Green Mile' all the way through ??? twice I have missed the first half :bang: but a couple of weeks ago I found it on sale locally, just waiting for a few hours to myself to curl up and watch it ::)
Michelle x
-
Yes Cazikins, Bette Davis did usually play a b..... but I also think her films were always worth a good story. Yes Madison County was the one with Clint Eastwood, though he was looking a little craggy! It was one of the last scenes that got me, when she sees him across the street in the rain knowing she wants to go to him but not having the courage!! God I'm filling up here! Not sure where you're coming from with the poncho and fat cigar though mmm...... ;D ;D
-
Not sure where you're coming from with the poncho and fat cigar though mmm...... ;D ;D
Coor I love him in cowboy films :-* :-*. I think for his age he is a very good looking man.
Bette was a brilliant actress that is for sure, but she always seemed to play the nasty woman in them, I'm sure in some she use to be a good person but I can't remember them (meno fog brain).
Hi Mikki, Kevin & Perry I finaly got round to watching last year, it is funny & I just hoot when I see anything with Kathy Burke in.
-
All the Harry Potter films. My daughter, my son's girlfriend and I are all massive fans!! My son has never forgiven my daughter and me for "converting" his g/f!!
And the books too ;)
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Bridget Jones (both of them) - and anything with Colin Firth in really :P
Loads of similar ones - I am a real chick-flick fan!
-
Anyone seen "The Green Mile" with Tom Hanks, my all time fave film and a close second would be "Angela's Ashes " could watch over and over
-
I loved the Green Mile too, and the Shawshank Redemption.
My favourite film of all time has to be The Producers, (the original, not the new one) I could watch that over and over. I like other Mel Brooks films too, Blazing Saddles, High Anxiety, etc.
Love the Carry On films, i know they're daft and i could act most of them but they're light hearted and ideal if you fancy giving your brain a rest! ;D
The Green Man and Green for Danger, the Ealing Comedies and Laughter in Paradise, oh dear, i'm showing my age! :o
I also love all Johnny Depp films (i've got them all) and Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriegez, Tim Burton.
I've also become addicted to the Saw films as well, although they're hard to stomach once, so i'd probably not watch them over and over!! :o
I'm not too keen on musicals but i do like Cabaret and Grease.
vianne x
-
I love the Green Mile too and the Shawshank Redemption.
I love musicals although I don't think the rest of the family like them as I tend to sing along to all the songs ;D ;D ;D
I recently saw The Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman and it was so beautiful I could watch that again quite easily, I think I have seen the Green Mile 3/4 times, I like Dirty Dancing/Ghost, just about anything with Clint Eastwood.
Heaps more but brain is not working properly at the moment ;D
Love,
Tricia :-* :-* :-*
-
I enjoy a good spy/thriiler like Mission Impossible or The Bourne Identity. Definitely watch all the Die Hard over and over again. :beat:
Any slapstick comedy that makes me laugh until my ribs ache. ;D
Any Jane Austin period with men in breeches. :toff:
Any musicals – my favourites are Sound of Music, Grease, Moulin Rouge, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
My all time favourites are rom coms with a nice happy slushy ending that makes my heart go pitter patter. My special favourite is Never Been Kissed with Drew Barrymore.
Luv Jax x :worm:
-
I love films like Mission Impossible and the Bourne trilogy, I got a bit fed up the Die Hard films towards the end as they were all much and such the same ???
Love,
Tricia :-* :-* :-*
-
I love the musicals like My Fair lady and Gigi also the really cheesey Doris Day films. Infact any sloppy feel good movie I love. Cannot cope with scarey films, I had to watch the end of The Panic Room before I could watch the rest of the film and as for The Deer Hunter, it took me three atempts and stiil could not watch all of it.
LOVE
Cazz
-
Its a wonderful life
Grease
Dirty Dancing
The Jazz Singer
Whose afraid of Virginia Wolf
Top gun
Officer and a Gentlemen
Pretty woman
The Commitments
Love Manypaws

I saw Mama Mia at the weekend and I have got to say it has all the elements of being the best film I have ever seen. It was funny, heartbreaking, emotional, toe tappingly infectious…….basically a roller coaster of a film that I can't wait to see it again.
The storyline fitted the ABBA songs to perfection, the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful, the supporting cast were tailor made for their roles. I won't spoil it for those who have yet to see the film but when Meryl Streep sang ‘that' song it sent goose bumps down my spine.
I think the film was made with menopausal women in mind. If you haven't seen it yet then take your tissues as the undertone of the story is based on families, friendships and relationships (the good and the bad)…………but be prepared to walk out at the end of the film feeling so very, very happy and grateful to be alive.
Luv Jax x :worm:
-
I loved it too, yes you do need the tissues :'( :'( :'(
julia
-
Wonderful film.
I have seen it twice in a week :)
Now got the soundtrack from the film. Such a feel good factor :)
Worth seeing.

Has anyone seen the "Green Mile" starring Tom Hanks, it's a brilliant film, I've watched it loads and thats unusual for me, as usually any film watching once is enough.
-
Have seen Mama Mia twice...... :gym: :gym: :gym: it is brilliant.......such a feel good movie.
I would like to see The Duchess....it looks as though it will be good.
Dipsy I said earlier I had seen The Green Mile and it was excellent.
Love,
Tricia :-* :-* :-*

I've managed to see the last hour of the Green Mile twice so I went out and bought the DVD about 6 months ago. Still sitting in it's wrapper 'cos I haven't had time to watch it yet :sigh:

Some great films on here though I couldn't sit through the Abba one, not a fan!
So, here's mine ...
Green Mile
Shawshank Redemption
Goodfellas (bit violent but Ray Liotta excellent)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (love the battle scene at the end when the dwarf gets thrown .. brilliant!!)
Toy Story 1&2 (haven't seen 3 yet)
Shrek 1
Brief Encounter (huge Noel Coward fan)
The Mission
Also love Johnny Depp ;D
My favourite film of all time (currently) is This Is England, I love all the cast (particularly Woody) and the music and the message, although there is some violence in it, it's so powerful. And I enjoyed the This is England 86 recently on the telly.
I'm not one for musical theatre really, but Cabaret (again dark, great songs) and Guys and Dolls both enjoyable.
I waited years for the chance to see Clockwork Orange, banned for so long and when I finally did, I had to turn it off after about 15 minutes as the violent scenes were truly appalling.
-
Here's my list
Last of the Mohicans
Meet the Parents
Meet the Fockers
Toy Story 1 & 2 (asked Santa for no.3)
Bridget Jones (both)
Coyote Ugly
Anna & the King
All of James Bond franchise but Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace (wonder why ;D )
White Christmas
Elf
Bad Santa
Shaun of the Dead
Can you tell I like a good comedy.
-
All the Harry Potters
Startrek ( the new one)
Anne of a thousand days
Love actually (on Xmas eve)
The big Lebowski
A man for all seasons
GalaxyQuest

Would take too long to list all the films I'd like to see more than once but Lucky Stone's post reminded me of the film which most affected me, which was "Scum."
Saw it at the cinema around 1980. In those days there were 2 films shown together and this was on before the one we'd actually gone to see. It was amazing - so powerful and shocking. Never before have I been in a packed cinema when there has been complete silence when the lights went up. We left - along with many others - without seeing the main film as we just couldn't take anything else in. Don't regret seeing it - it was probably less violent than many modern films but so affecting. Led to an investigation of Borstals, I believe - something worthwhile coming out of such upsetting images. Starred unknown actors - amongst them a very young Ray Winstone.
Bixby x
-
I missed the start of the film this afternoon but vaguely remembered the rest ::)
-
Ooh, Ray Winstone Bixby, one of my faves .... the scene with the billiard balls in the sock ... "I'm the daddy now". Very powerful stuff! Think they did one about a female borstal as well, can't recall what it was called? Winstone is a Hammers fan of course, well someone has to be in these dark times ...
-
That's the one - that's the scene I remember most too. Apparently there was a props man laying under the table who swopped the sock for one containing ping pong balls just before he hit the guy with it - still hurt, though! The male rape scene in the greenhouse was so shocking but probably not particularly graphic by today's standards.
Bixby x
-
I forgot Apollo 13, always cry at the end!
-
I forgot about Apollo 13 too. Another one we watch a lot is The Wright Stuff. I have watched Top Gun & An Officer & a Gentleman a lot too.
-
I would love to see Much ado about nothing again, but haven't seen it in the shops, Amazon maybe. Eddie. x
-
Ken Branagh's Much Ado? Excellent :) Kearno Reeves as Don John. :P
-
I've been trying to explain it to my hubby and girls, but can't do it justice. Eddie. x
-
'Wuthering Heights' - 1992 version. My favourite book too.
'300' - Tom Wisdom as Astinos. Oh my...
'Perfume' - Amazing sets and I love period drama
'Plunkett and McLean' - A wonderful historical romp, even if it's not entirely accurate who cares.
'The Full Monty' - Cos it makes me smile
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

-
Any Star Trek film or series.

Any western or horsey or doggy :scottie: film. I just oogle the hosses and marvel at how well trained the dogs are.
I try to get mine to watch,(dogs not horses, they're too big for the sitting room ::).but it doesn't improve them much ;D
I got Champion the Wonder Horse DVD set for Xmas last year. ( can tell I have to buy my own pressies ;D)
-
Oh. Def the incredible journey. I weep every time. Eddie. x
-
I sat and watched the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe which went by me when I was younger. It was great, the special effects were really good and I was on the edge of the settee at times making whimpering noises when Aslan died but he didn't he got up eventually ......... apparently Hubby had seen it before ??? ??? don't know who with though 'cos I never have done :P
Been watching The Nativity at 7.00 p.m. on BBC1 which has been interesting ........ didn't think of Mary having had a painful labour, sort of thought Jesus popped out ..... after all everything else was miraculous ;-)
-
Yes, we tend to 'gloss over' the actual birth of Jesus ... ! There's a good ghost story on tonight about 9pm that I'll be watching (bet OH goes and plays on his computer as he doesn't like spooky things) :)
-
There's another Narnia on this evening but it's a bit long .......... but may catch up on iPlayer .......
-
As I have to walk dogs on my own down unlit country roads I steer away from spooky and horror and women getting attacked films.
I know I'm a wimp who would attack me with 3 dogs, sometimes 5 dogs. :scottie: :scottie:
-
Depends, some dogs would go to anyone ::) I didn't know if my cocker would protect me until she did :-*
-
What happened? How did your cocker have to protect you?
My lurcher would make a lot of noise and she frightens people who don't know her. She thinks our road is to be protected like the house. I was chatting to a guy I know, sitting in my car, him outside passenger window, and I had to hold her head under my arm as she was growling the whole time at him. I didn't want to tell her off too much as I want her protection, and he was leaning into the car.
-
twice: once was when we walked through the local town, a man there had a mobility problem which made him walk like a drunk, she hid behind me and growled loudly ...... the other time was when I was in bed with vertigo, my friend had our house key and sent her husband [who my dog knew] in to feed the cats; he said the dog was sitting half way up the stairs and he didn't like to push by her ...... once I had said 'it's OK L' she came back to bed and he was able to bring me a cup of tea .........
As for films I've seen this weekend: part of Ice Age II; all of Happy Feet; some of High Society :-*
-
IN laws come boxing day and we watch a film after feed.
We watched' Beverleyhills Chiuaha' very good I enjoyed it. One of heros was a GSD.

-
There are several I watch fairly regularly. Lord of the Rings trilogy, Trainspotting, Gladiator. Clueless too for some reason, even though it isn't really that great.

-

-
Mama Mia, Quadrophenia, Flashdance and Dirty Dancing are ones I can watch over and over

I have watched The Go Between countless times and never tire of it. It was filmed locally in the 1970s and I knew a lot of the extras in the film. That summer My friend and I got a summer job working as chambermaids in the hotel where many of the actors stayed. Julie Christie, Alan Bates, Terence Stamp - great cast.
I don't know if anybody remembers the series When The Boat Comes In. They have been repeating it on the Drama Channel and it is just as good second time around. That was also 1970s.

Over the Christmas period I can watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation several times and it always makes me laugh.

I've fancied (love that lol) BC since Sherlock aired. I don't know what it is about him, but I've always liked the awkward nerdy type (don't tell dh...he's not that). He's not the typical handsome Hollywood hunk like George Clooney but I still find him attractive. And yes he is a great actor, and during interviews he seems to be such a loveable goofball.
