Title: vagifem..
Post by: hellen on December 15, 2013, 08:31:41 PM
Hi, Has anyone ever stopped vagifem, after taking it for some time, and what were the effects. I completely stopped vagifem, due to I believe a thrush infection or bv, while I treated the infection. initially all was fine, then  very bad internal swelling, throbbing and burning pain, I felt very hot along my stomach, not sure what is going on, have been to the doctor, had it checked out, but its still happening, they don't seem to get the idea just how bad the swelling is, or how uncomfortable its it.. .  it was so bad it was effecting my bowels, and made me feel quite weak, to which at one point I ended up in a and e. , it was completely horrendous.  its getting a bit better, but still seem to swell up inside.   the pain was like seven hells all at once..  and the swelling, I just can not stand or walk around for a long period. .. I shall be glad when this whatever it is over, because having swollen up insides is no fun what so ever..

It sounds how I felt before I started Vagifem hellen. Usually if you need vagifem you need to use it for the rest of your life. Your oestrogen levels wont suddenly restore themselves. I eventually needed vagifem plus full HRT to achieve the same level of comfort. Does your doctor know you have stopped vagifem?

Hi, yes he does know, I have gone back onto the gynest cream now. I came off it to treat for infection, had been off it 15 days, then all hell broke loose. he would have been happy for me to go back to the vagifem, but as I felt so irritated, and inflamed up there, I wanted to try the cream. I couldn have coped with any more pain, I was at level ten lol.  the cream has changed since the first time I used it years ago, its is much thicker and stays in place more. apparently its a different hormone that vagifem. im not sure that one sort of hormone is better than another. but my atrophy was never this bad before I took the vagifem in the first place.. I wonder if you take the hormone does your body give up making it itself. and that's why it hit me bang.. but getting better is so slow, and as I said much worse that the atrophy I had in the first place..

I would think that when you started Vagifem you were still making a certain amount of oestrogen yourself but as time goes on then your own levels drop which is why you have suffering so severely now. I take it that swabs have been taken to check for any infection?

It is also worth bearing in mind that some women are allergic to the components in either Vagifem or gynest cream so it could be that the cream is not agreeing with you. I am surprised you had to stop using  Vagifem as I was told to continue with  mine during treatment for thrush and then BV. Sometimes we do get conflicting information!

I was told to stop it when treating an infection also.  It seems maybe the hormones make a nicer place for the microbes to flourish so stopping when treating infection helps the medicine work better?

hi, i don't know whats going on with my insides,  but i think i will give the doc a call and see if i should change the gynest cream for something else as i have used it every night, for the last five nights, and im still feel hot and swelling inside, very odd. and not particulary nice. Its the weirdest thing i have ever had, i feel hot and swollen on the inside, this is how it started, maybe im allergic to gynest.  i will use if for the last time tonight, and then maybe ask the doc if i should try ovestin, i wonder if you can change from one to another like that though..

Yes you can change from one to the other, but maybe you shouldn't put anything up there for a while.

At one point I was just insane with inflammation there.....the doc said stop everything but I couldn't....I felt I had to use some kind of estrogen or it would be worse. I think maybe I had reacted to something in the yeast infection medicine and didn't realize it. I went to a dermatologist who said to put 1% hydrocortisone ointment on the opening tissues once a day and alternate with vaseline and stop everything inside. I didn't do it at first, but then I tried it and it eventually worked but took a while. I had started patches by this time. If you need something for dryness inside, maybe you could use a little YES lubricant...it is all organic and probably won't irritate...they come in individual disposable units and are sold in UK.  I have ordered them before. Also, I found that ibuprofen take n orally also helped.

Aren't you the one that tried the Estring?....is that why you stopped the vagifem?

Hi,  I think your right im so imflammed in there its driving me nuts, I actually enjoy cold hands on my stomach.. but hey ho, struggled and insisted on seeing a doctor today, who was not any good at all. she said she didn't really know, but if I thought I was having trouble with gynest, to stop using anything up there for 24 hrs, and if the pain got unbearable go to a hospital. use my vagifem if I wanted after the 24hrs.. to be honest, I couldn stand to much more pain. my lower stomach is like a fire ball lol.. so I would like to leave all alone up there, but I did use some plain ky jelly. as I thought that would be bland but what do I know. don't think it helped a lot. .  maybe,  yes,  would be better but don't have any, or maybe sylk which I do have. but I have been on fire now since last Thursday. no hospital results from any of the tests either.. no hortizone cream was suggested, or vasaline, and im not sore on the outside at all, .. yes I did try the estring, but went back to vagifem, after I started getting imflammation with it. exact spot where it sat inside of me. the heat across the bottom of my stomach never felt anything like it. oh well, not so happy Christmas, but maybe peace on earth and happy vaginas to all women xxx

hi, my insides are calming down now a little, since i have stopped the gynest. the hot swollen throbbing is less.   so here hopes for a calm Christmas, but not sure when to start the vagifem... but a little snippet that might make you smile..  feeling my partner was not getting the gravity of my situation, and felt i deserved a little sympathy...  i tried to make a comparison that he would understand, i blurted out in frustration, how would you like a big swollen throbbing thing between your legs, i knew as the last word left my mouth, i had lost that one................ lol...
