Well done :cheer:

Well done, Ju Ju. If you can get a merit despite what you felt about the last unaccompanied song and the tests at the end, it must have gone well. :congrats:
I think you said you were going to start on an Italian song next. Hope you're enjoying that now!

We might even have enough singers to start a Meno Choir <looks round for Gareth Malone> ;D

I actually did better on the unaccompanied song than on the others. 19/21! I have never had a problem holding a tune. The worst mark was for the song I usually sang the best. Often the way! We were originally going straight to Grade 4, but have now decided to do Grade 3 next as the last few weeks have highlighted that I am insecure with sight reading and counting the beats while singing. (Not good at multi-tasking!) I had no musical background at all before I started singing lessons, so I need to work harder in this area. No Italian songs at Grade 3 unfortunately, but I shall learn some incidentally anyway. Loved singing Santa Lucia.
Now a Meno Choir? What an amazing challenge for Gareth Malone! Could he cope? Some of you ladies are wonderfully naughty!! ;D

I hated music theory because it means doing sums, in fact, one could not read Music without studying Maths at the Royal College ...... sight reading was a nightmare ::) but I could often play by ear ..........
Do you practice scales? I learnt piano, recorder, clarinet .......... sang in the school choir and was Yum Yum for 3 nights :-* ..... then I had surgery which interfered with my vocal chords so I can't always hold a note :-X ..........

Yes I do. I used to work with my singing teacher. Like me she was an early years teacher and explains things very clearly just at my level! I failed my 11+ and went to a rubbish secondary modern school. No music apart from a bit of singing in the 1st year. The end of the school year exam was singing a solo. I loved it as I was able to shock the adults and the other children by the quality of my singing. I was a quiet little mouse in those days.
Did you go to the Royal College, CLKD? Wonderful if you did. I made sure my children had the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. My son learnt to play the guitar and later drums, but found learning to read music very difficult along with a lot of things as he is severely dyslexic. Fortunately his teacher really cared about him and took him through it at his own pace. But it meant he was able to compose his own music unrestricted by reading music. He is thrilled about what I am doing. I don't think I have ever so passionate about doing something like this before. Perhaps because I am doing just for me. My ultimate ambition is to have the skills and confidence to sing solos in front of an audience.

I failed the 11+ but there was music, as much as we liked! No I didn't go the Royal College, I fell in love instead  ....... and being rather lazy, wouldn't really have enjoyed the pressure! It never bothered me to sing in front of people, it was where I knew I could excell :-* ............

Just read this thread so congratulations from me too Ju Ju :clapping: - very well done. You must be so pleased and it's a fantastic achievement especially as you had no musical background! I sing too but not in the same way...

So you should be - and hold the dream to sing solos. There's nothing to beat being a soloist and being able to communicate your interpretation of the music to a whole lot of people who want it hear it. It is scary before you go on, but if it goes well, you're on a musical "high" for the rest of the evening!
I had the extreme good fortune to be asked to play the organ with an orchestra, in a concert two years ago and I will never, ever forget that evening. It was terrifying because woe betide me if I came in at the wrong place (the organ's capable of some very loud "raspberries"!) but it went well. It was definitely the high point of my entire musical life to date and I was walking on a cloud of air about six feet high afterwards.
I do hope you fulfill your ambition, Ju Ju.

Thank you! I'm off to collect my certificate later with my little grandson. I have never driven with him before, but he adores my car, so he will love it.
-
Great! Do you sing to him?
-
Yes and he joins in!

:-* Jingle bells, batman smells, robin's gone away ::)
Away in a Manger etc., this is a good time of year to sing together.
