Just a little one during the night.
Paramedics came but she refused to go into hospital. Her blood pressure is very high. Main symptom is heavy left arm.
It's not what I expected at all.
Feeling a bit funny. She has been there forever.

Was it the paramedics that said it was a heart attack? My dad was on a treadmill at the hospital being tested for suspected heart trouble and he had a small heart attack. They took him to a ward and did a blood test, they said they would know until the bloods came back if it was a heart attack or not.
-
The paramedics suggested it was and so did the doctor. The district nurse is coming in to do bloods this morning.
She had been complaining of feeling a bit off but during the night the heavy arm thing came on.
We did know she has an enlarged heart but today her heart beat was irregular.
Wish she had agreed to go into hospital but that was declined and sis had to sign a disclaimer. Paramedics left and the GP was there ten minutes later.
Don't know what to think really. Just feeling a bit stunned.

It is a bit of a shock, hopefully the Doctor will give her some medication to stop it happening again. Aren't old people stubborn.

I can't understand why your sister signed! ::) This was your Mum's decision not to go to Hospital, understandably - she probably felt better once the medics were there and the symptoms had passed. Hopefully the bloods will determine whether your Mum requires treatment. Something your sister needs to talk with you about probably .............
-
I think she is probably more scared than stubborn to be honest. I think at her age, 91, she just wants to be at home.
The thing is, well the thing that's going round in my head, is, is the the little one before the big one. I know I should be thinking more positive but the thoughts keep churning away.

Of course they do. But Nature sometimes takes over  ..... I lay in bed last week wondering how my Mum will end up ::) - fiesty and on the go currently ........... but which Nursing Home should I be looking at, 'in case' :-\
Do you go over toyour Mum this morning?
-
Understand how you are feeling HB, my thoughts are with you x
-
Hubby has a hospital appointment later today so I will pop in and see her later.
The nurse has been and the results will be back later today hopefully and it will go from there.
Having trouble getting my daughter to go back to uni. She is upset but I think she should go and get on. It will take her mind off things.

I will be thinking about you HB. Your daughter will be better if she returns to Uni, though I can understand her feelings. You can keep her informed by text/phone. :bighug:
-
Is your daughter worried about you or her Gran.? Hope the appt today goes well!
-
Sorry to hear that HB, have you had any results back yet?
-
Hope things go well today HB.
Your daughter will probably be better off back at uni, it should help take her mind off things.
Hugs
-
No results as yet. We were told it could be as late as midnight and then the doctors on call would let us know.
She looks ok. I have seen her look a whole lot worse to be honest. I just hope they are just covering themselves and its something totally different that is wrong.
Daughter sent back to uni. She needs to be busy.
Wish we just knew one way or another. Fingers crossed for good news.

So sorry to read about your Mums heart attack HB. I hope there is good news soon from the results.

So sorry HB x
I remember when my mum had a mini stroke, v high bp and just came on very suddenly (she started talking gibberish) and the biggest issue was her anxiety about what had happened and "ending up in hospital". She was terrified she'd not come out and made us promise to let her stay home.
Can you sit with her, distract her and try to calm her down? I remember hand massages helped and just talking.
Sounds like you're in shock too - so sorry.
-
Hopefully the results will wait until the morning! No good phoning in the early hours because that upsets people even more ::)
-
I am hoping that no news is good news.
She is now on her own as she did not want either sis or me to stay. She has a carer in later but I bet we get a call in the night.

You're not going to get much sleep tonight HB, constantly waiting for phone to ring. Is carer there all night at all?
-
No she will be on her own but that's what she said she wanted. Not sure how long that will last.
Clean jammies at the ready.

Hugs HB. Here's wishing you a peaceful night's sleep.
-
Sleep. If your Mum is on her own, let her be the one to remain awake! I do hope that the results are kept until the morning .......... little can be done unless there is an emergency ;)
-
I don't think we will hear anything tonight. Tomorrow morning perhaps. I am still hopeful it has been a false alarm and its something other than her heart.
I am really tired so hopefully we will all get a good night's sleep.

Hi HB, I'm sorry you are having the stress of your Mom's health issues. She has been blessed with a caring, responsible daughter. Please remember to take care of yourself. I'm glad your daughter returned to university. I would love to have you as a daughter. Get rest. That's an order.😴
-
Hope you've had some sleep HB & that your mum is feeling better today. :-*
-
Have you heard anything and did you get any sleep?

She seems to be feeling a bit brighter this morning. Still no results. Hopefully will hear something later today.
I slept off and on with one ear listening for the phone.
Off now to see her.

Well still no news from the doctors re the blood tests. I am a bit confused. She now says that her arm still feels heavy and cold and her left leg feels a bit strange. That says to me it could have been a little stroke.
She is markedly more confused than she has ever been before. Speach is fine but she keeps telling you something and then two minutes later asking the question she has just told you about it.
Then we go round in the same loop all over again. Then the next minute she is perfectly lucid.
Sis will speak to the doctor later today I think. But as to whether it's been a heart attack I really don't know. Certainly something has happened.

When you mentioned her heavy arm the first time that occurred to me as well HB. Can she raise both arms? If she smiles is it lopsided? There are some other stroke indicators too.
-
It occurred to me too, could have been TIA, I think you must be on your guard HB.
-
Will the blood tests show this or would she need other tests?
Sis seems to be reluctant to speak to the GP and I can't figure out why. It will just cause trouble if I call so I have to sit back and say nothing.
She is favouring her right arm at the moment and I did not see her walking today as she was in bed. Her walking is very bad anyway so it would be difficult to tell. Her face looks the same and her speech is not slurred it's the veering off into confusion and back again that worries me.
Confused as ever.

I think the only way to be certain is a MRI scan.
-
Not a chance of her having one of those. Just need to keep an eye on her. She is a tough old bird. She must be to have got to 91.

If it was a heart attack it will definitely show up in the blood test. Not sure about a stroke though. X
-
The "in and out" phases could be to do with the blood supply to the brain Honeybun. It was this that caused my mum's vascular dementia. People, like my mum, can have a series of undetected mini strokes (TIAs) which don't really give any symptoms apart from an intermittent loss of memory and ability to see things as they really are. I am not saying this is what your mum has but you might find this helpful http://www.helpguide.org/elder/vascular_dementia.htm just to see if you can recognise anything leading up to her current illness.

-
So sorry to hear this. TIA and / or blood supply to the brain as Taz has said was what came to my mind. Hope you get some answers soon.
-
The blood tests have come back as inconclusive and also the ECG. The family GP who spoke to my sister thinks now it could possibly have been a small stroke. She is to have bloods redone and another ECG.
I spoke to her earlier and she says her arm still feels heavy and cold. I asked about her leg and she could not remember anything about that except it also feels "tired".
She is still zoning in and out a bit but is better than she was.

-
Hope your mum is comfortable, and you all get some decent sleep tonight.
-
hello HB, as I often do, I second Taz's thinking. I've not heard of heavy or tired legs with heart attack. A twenty minute CT scan should reveal stroke. Sorry you continue to have worries with your Mum. Please take care of you, too.
-
My mum had TIAs that went unnoticed and ended up with vascular dementia. Has the GP been told of the cold and heavy arm?
Thinking of you HB, it's hard when you dont feel you can intervene on your mum's behalf I'm sure.
Hugs x
-
Please get the GP to check for a urine infection - some of the symptoms can be confusion and muscle fatigue. This is what had my Mum in hospital for over a month bot it took them 2 1/2 weeks to diagnose it ::)
-
Thanks I had thought of that but as she has recurrent infections the last urine test was at the end of last week and was clear.
She is much the same today according to sis. There is a lot of zoning in and out. One minute making perfect sense the next of to her own little world. It's not that she talks rubbish she just has no recall and is unaware of what she has said.
Honeyb
X
-
That does sound very much like a vascular problem Honeybun.
Taz x
-
Yes she ticks a lot of boxes.
Just got to wait and see what happens. Nothing major for a while I hope. She is going to the GP a week today so we will see what comes from that.

all the best Honeyb. Hope you can get some rest. x
-
Get the GP to call at home! If this is vascular then she needs therapy ASAP! Give your Surgery a ring for advice?
-
I agree with CLKD.....maybe you shouldn't wait until the GP appt. Does she take aspirin? I have been celebrating our November holiday and haven't been on much. So sorry to hear this about your mom, honeybun.

Any news :-\

Sorry to hear this, haven't been on for a while. How is she now?
-
Any news about your Mum's results? :-\
-
Just read this HoneyB, hope you get some answers soon. Eddie. X
-
She was at the doc's this morning and had an ECG done. She is now on one aspirin tablet a day as a blood thinner and that's it.
She seems fine at the moment although still complains a bit about her arm.
Not much else to be done it would seem.
Thanks for asking.
