Title: Beetroot juice
Post by: Rowan on November 08, 2013, 03:52:24 PM
Have been reading up on beetroot juice and its health benefits for a while now, so while doing the TESCO run today decided to buy some, just had a glass mixed with some cloudy apple juice and its very good.

Here's some info on the health benefits and its ability to lower blood pressure

i love beetroot but hate dealing with it - red hands and all that.  I recently bought some beetroot relish (made by Stokes) - delicious with jacket potato, salad and cottage cheese or just on top of cheese and biscuits.  I love roasted beetroot - sweet and gorgeous. DG x

Beetroot doesn't need to be messy: dig from the garden, wash thoroughly; cook in the skin until ready; drain water being careful not to splash  ;) - take 2 forks and rub skin off or use kitchen roll.  Discard peelings.  Cut and serve hot or put into vinegar.  YUMMY.

Don't know that it has any other health benefits than other veg./fruit though  :-\

Hi there, at moment I'm trying to improve my  diet , well Ive had a few bits and bobs to deal with. I have a marvellous book-from library, I may buy it its so good,  The Medicinal Chef by Dale Pinnock. Love the recipes, simple and  unfussy. Anyway, Beetroot is good  if you haqve high Blood Pressure- it's high in Nitrates- Beetroot is also good for Liver Health. ( thats what the book said )I just like it, even if my pee is slightly multi coloured the following day!

Beetroot and crisp sandwich does it for me.

I never have any side effects from beetroot. I think it all depends on how acidic your stomach is.

dont know if i am being a bit slow here  :-\ but does this apply to the beetroot in jars done in vinegar, as i can eat a jar in one sitting i love the stuff and normally anything i enjoy is unhealthy  ;D

It is 90% beetroot juice with a little apple juice added, not the pickled  beetroot in vinegar though that's very good or roasted beetroot , I add it to either cloudy apple juice or any other berry juice.

It just means you can get more of the goodness of the beetroot as you could not eat a lot of the whole beetroot in one go.

Maybe it's the vinegar he doesn't like?  Cooked with a roast dinner makes a totally different tasting veg. ;)
